The
Street Prophets that is. Dkos members need to take a few minutes and visit this part of our community. Now you need not be concerned about preachers standing on the corner of this Street telling you the end is near. But with the antics of the Bush Crime Syndicate can any one doubt that some end is in site? If you don't think so then visit
Street Prophets and find some hope.
Street Prophets is a place to relax for few minutes and see how our liberal and progressive community can connect to matters of the spirit. Kossacks this is important because there is absolutely a spitirtual connection in the work of progressives. Not a religious spirituality but one of "connectedness". That is being connected with minds of like thinking.
You do not need to have a belief in a supreme being to visit the Street. You just need to have an open mind and spirit of peace and humanity. Markos and PastorDan were wise to develop this Street. Development is springing up all along that street. And this is a community of welcoming and dialog.
I hope the kossacks remember that the progressive movement had many roots in the religious communities of our nation. If you are working for peace, you will be working side by side with elements from our spiritual community. The history of progressive thinking goes back to the days of abolitionists to the movement of the civil rights community and beyond. We must remember that separation of church and state is a condition of the state but not necessarily of the individual. You do not need to relinquish a sense of the spirit to order to maintain a steadfast commitment to a separation of church and state.
I am not religious. I do not go to church or claim any affiliation to a church. I am not certain that there is a god. And I am not necessarily seeking. But I am interested in building communities that think progressively as I do. And I am not arrogant enough to believe that this means only secular communities need apply.
It is important for us to realize that in order to build a progressive movement it must not surrender its core values but it must welcome all into the center ring that share those primary values. We may differ on some matters of conscious, but it is this diversity that makes us stronger as a movement. So give it a chance. Visit the Street, leave a comment, and and embrace this community.
What are your thoughts. Poll and comments please. BTW recommend so that kos and PastorDan can guage your thinking.
