Okay, I'm looking for opinions on this:
WASHINGTON -- Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid of Nevada praised Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers on Monday but downplayed reports he had recommended her to the Bush administration as an acceptable pick.
(snip)
The Associated Press reported Reid had personally recommended that Bush consider Miers for nomination, citing several sources familiar with the president's consultations with individual senators.
(snip)
Reid did not deny Miers was on a list of acceptable nominees he suggested to the White House. But he said the notion he recommended Miers was "maybe exaggerating a little."

Maybe I'm overestimating Reid, but I think this is a brilliant tactic. Am I wrong?
We're already seeing Conservative heads exploding over the nomination.
If Harry Reid gets out there and brags that it's "maybe exaggerating a little" the notion that he recommended her -- isn't that adding fuel to the head-exploding fire?
I've been very impressed with Reid so far (he makes me so glad Daschle's gone). He seems smart enough to be actually doing this on purpose.
He's going to let the conservatives attack her, and Bush, letting them spread the idea that she was actually picked "by liberals".
Then, when it's confirmation time, the Democrats will oh-so-politely bring up her "unfortunate" lack of experience (while praising her for being born without a dick) and the Republicans will make mincemeat out of her, thus embarrassing the President and splitting the Repubs.
I feel very sorry for Harriet Miers, actually. I think she's gonna get crucified.
But I'm wondering what others think.
