Enough said. End of diary.
Huh? You think we should support Miers if only to give apoplexy to the far right? Well if you want to do that; just hang a sandwich board over your hard-body with JESUS WAS A HOMO stenciled in hot pink with a black outline.
You don't give a pass to sweet old Aunt Harriet because of the entertainment value.
Listen; there is not one reason for democrats, republicans, or anyone else who claims to love America to support this nomination. This nomination is about the vanity of the President; not the welfare of the nation. It's about a pattern of reckless abuse of power and chronic hubris; not the common good.
There is only one reason to support the nomination of Harriet Miers to the bench of the Supreme Court of the United States of America: you're as bat-shit crazy as President George Walker Bush.
QUESTION: Mr. President, of all of the people in the United States you had to choose from, is Harriet Miers the most qualified to serve on the Supreme Court?
BUSH: Yes. Otherwise, I wouldn't have put her on.
Okay. Bush's answer makes bat-shit crazy look like a straight line. Holy crap, Angela Davis is more qualified to be on the SCOTUS. And frankly, Dr. Davis would make a hell of a Justice compared to the simpleton, Harriet Miers. As they say, it takes a village idiot to proclaim another village idiot a genius.
The bloggers on the right (not going to link; as Bush says, "trust me,") are pissed off but resigned to the fact that Miers will be confirmed because the Democrats support her. WTF? Democrats support Miers? This makes the Do-Nothing Democrats look like the See, Hear and Speak No Evil Monkeys without any of the petting-zoo charm.
I mean, Jesus, Mary and Joseph half of the Republican Senate has basically said, "Sorry George, try again." And what do the Democrats do? Engage in some kind of `thumb up their ass' strategery as they watch with stupid grins on their faces the bickering of their betters. Yeah, I said "betters." The Republicans are corrupt jackanapes of the fourth kind, but at least they practice something that approaches leadership. Misguided misanthropes though they are, Republicans know their "values." Maryscott O'Connor is right. The Democrats don't care.
I am freaking sorry but the nomination of Harriet Miers is an Extraordinary Circumstance as defined by the infamous conservative Gang of 14. It's not a small-town dog catcher we are talking about here. It's a Supreme Court Justice of the United States of America. This is more ridiculous than appointing Mr. Ed to head up FEMA. You might as well appoint Paris Hilton to be Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts.
Harriet Miers is probably a decent person. This isn't about Harriet Miers. It's about her qualifications to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.
What are they?
She's a lawyer. That's a qualification? There are a million lawyers in the USA. BFD. Are they all qualified to be a Justice of the Supreme Court? Of course not. Being an attorney does not ipso facto qualify one for the job.
She's a woman. That qualifies her for equal protection under the law and the full benefits of citizenship, national and human, including the right of privacy and dominion over her reproductive (and all other) rights. Her womanhood certainly does not disqualify her, but it does not convey automatic worthiness for one of the most important and powerful jobs in the world. Nine women on the court is fine with me as long as they're qualified.
What other qualifications does Harriet Miers have other than her conservatively correct religious beliefs, plus knowing what the President has stuck up his ass to make him walk that weird way he does.
There is only one reason America's silliest President ever nominated her. She is a born again Christian who believes abortion is murder. Period; end-of-story.
"I'm a pro-life President," says the man who looks into people's hearts, sees their souls, proclaims their worth and talks mano a mano with the Almighty.
Harriet Miers is "pro-life." You know what? I have nothing against someone who believes in humanity at conception being on the court. What I have a problem with is someone who does not have the panoramic scope of Constitutional Law at their command. The Supreme Court is not the place for a crash course in Constitutional Law.
Harriet Miers is not qualified for the job she has been nominated for. In addition, the cynical politics played by this stonewalling, cover-up ridden White House and their constant refusal to release requested and appropriate documentation all in the name of Executive Privilege, undermines Congressional oversight and the Constitutional authority of the United States Senate to Advise and Consent. Miers has no judicial record; and her legal opinions as Presidential Counsel will not be released. As a lawyer, I suspect that everything she's written is under the protection of attorney/client privilege.
Maybe she has a diary she can share. "Dear Diary; God is Great and Bush is Swell." Sounds good put her on the court.
Listen; this all comes down to the lying bastard President, after years of mismanagement, misappropriation and myriad mistakes asking the American People to trust him. In the darkening twilight of his lame duck Presidency in a quagmire of war, scandal and ineptitude, the President asks for one more chance.
Well, fuck him and the horse he rode in on.
Say no to Miers; no to Bush and no to the continuation of the politics of the vapid.
