Man. When I decided to launch my anti-New Republic campaign, I never imagined how
easy it would be. This is courtesy of
mikel1814 in a previous thread:
I found this on The Deanophobe Blog on TNR's website under What is the Dean-O-phobe blog? It made me laugh out loud. Kos should put it in the thread.
"And second, no, I'm not holding any brief for the Lieberman campaign. In fact Lieberman is not even close to being in my top three favorite candidates. I say this because many Dean supporters out there appear convinced that everything in TNR is written toward the end of nominating Joe Lieberman (just as they believed the same thing about Al Gore in previous election cycles), and no amount of evidence to the contrary will disabuse them of that notion."
--Jonathan Chait
Not to be confused with this:
"But one day, Joe Lieberman's warnings in this campaign will look prophetic. And the principles he has espoused will once again guide the Democratic Party. It will be the work of this magazine, to whatever small degree possible, to hasten that day."
--TNR Endorsement of Lieberman
Yeah, that's pretty funny. (If a bit unfair -- not
everything in the magazine is pro Lieberman. Just the full weight of the magazine's editorial board).
But this got me to reread a sentence that I sort of glossed over the first time through the editorial.
And the principles he has espoused will once again guide the Democratic Party. It will be the work of this magazine, to whatever small degree possible, to hasten that day.
Guys, that's a shot across the bow. This magazine is gearing up for war against any candidate to Lieberman's left.
Put another way, it will be the work of TNR to hasten that day when the principles Lieberman has espoused will once again guide the Democratic Party.
And as they go to war against the Dean or Clark Democratic Party, watch as the rest of the press pick up on the "Democrats are a house divided" theme. It's inevitable.
