Does anyone really think that special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald will be allowed to move ahead on any indictments he may bring against Bush and his cronies? This gang knows no bounds and will do anything to hold onto their power.
Fitzgerald may well bring indictments, but then he will be stopped by a brick wall. I remind you of the case of Sibel Edmunds, who testimony about 9/11 to the Senate was classified as a state secret.
More below the fold.
Here is an extract from the linked article:
Edmonds was barred from testifying in the 9/11 class action suit, and on July 6, 2004, her own suit was dismissed on state secrets grounds. Edmonds immediately appealed the latter decision.
The day the appeal was filed, the Inspector General released an unclassified summary of a highly classified report on an investigation that had concluded "that many of her allegations were supported, that the FBI did not take them seriously enough, and that her allegations were, in fact, the most significant factor in the FBI's decision to terminate her services. ...Rather than investigate Edmonds' allegations vigorously and thoroughly, the FBI concluded that she was a disruption and terminated her contract." [3]
But on April 21, 2005, in the hours before the hearing of her appeal, three Republican judges issued a ruling that barred all reporters and the public from the courtroom. During the proceedings, Edmonds was not allowed into the courtroom for the hearing. On May 6, 2005, when her case was dismissed, no reason was provided, and no opinion cited. (emphasis added.)
Back the Fitzgerald: Since this case, by definition involves the CIA and issues involving national securty, once the prosecutor brings his indictments, expect to have them immediately declared state secrets. Expect Fitzgerald and all his associates to be gagged, as was Edmonds. And expect the case to tied up in appeals for years and eventually dismissed on "state secret grounds."
And don't expect the corporate media to raise a peep.
The executive branch of the government will have taken over.
