As we are all aware the middle class is being destroyed by the current administration and congress. I have often thought there should be better representation for the middle class. Too often the middle class are tricked into voting against their own best interests. What is needed is an organization like the AARP which specifically deals with helping to maintain and grow a large, vibrant middle class.
I have had this idea for a long time and recently was able to register the domain name www.savethemiddleclass.org. What I am hoping for is ideas from the Kos community as to how to get this organization up and running and what form the organization should take. My initial thoughts are for an organization like AARP which charges a membership fee but is a non profit. The organization could make arrangements with companies like the AARP to offer discounts and products and services so that the membership fee would pay for itself through savings. The goal would be to have a membership in the millions that could lobby Congress to make fair tax laws, repeal the new bankrupcy law, initiate health care reform and making people realize what the budget deficit actually means. Also it would serve to educate people that everything that happens in the government does in some way effect the middle class and its way of life.
I need information on what would be the best tax status, where to go to for funding, how to start the process. Also I would like your thoughts on such an organization. Could it be successful? Could it have an influence on the 2006 mid term elections? Any and all comments are encouraged. Also if people could recommend this diary it would be greatly appreciated since the more feedback I receive the better off I will be.
