Everyone's shaking the packages, peeling away paper, counting the boxes, marking their sizes in eager anticipation of Fitzmas. But what many kossaks don't seem to realize is that we're all wishing for the same gift, but moreso, we've already received it.
We all want this president out of power or severely weakened politically, RIGHT? Well, we already have that at this point, and it's here to stay!
Some helpful facts to help you stay optimistic and empowered on the flip-side...
I assert that these statements can now be considered fact and should be recognized as such, or at least we should discuss their likiness of occuring and how might be proven false:
- Bush will NEVER again possess the political power he enjoyed post-9/11, or anything even remotely close to it.
- Regardless of the long-term outcome in Iraq and the Middle East, the means by which it came to be introduced and executed will continue be regarded as dishonorable at the least, possibly treasonous
- The failure of the federal, state and local government to respond effectively to major crisis, such as Katrina, rests squarely on the shoulders of those who have taken control of the White House and the Senate, namely the extremists of the republican party. These republicans have defeated countless democrats and demonized scores of groups who they convinced the public were "unpatriotic", "ineffective", and "weak on security." Now the public is learning that these words were either meaningless rhetoric, calculated exaggerations, and outright lies.
- Bush's political weakness after the exposure of his failure in appointing Mike Brown and the subsequent response to Katrina finally instilled enough skepticism in many key republican politicians and pundits as to cause the first major fracture in the right wing solidarity. This fracture first reared its head with the right's split over Harriet Miers. The right's anger over Miers seems to stem from the unspoken fact that both sides are frustrated with the fact that Bush let himself become such a political lame duck as to prevent him from nominating a true believer.
That's all I can think of for now, but the overall point being that no matter what Fitzmas brings, we've already been given a lot of political gifts this year and should be grateful. Take the poll and let me know if i'm off my rocker...
