At a recent Memorial Day event, one of my supporters and I had a long talk about my campaign. He took me to task for not sharing with the media of the district (and thus the electorate) my life outside of politics as a composer and writer. "We have the right to know about you as a person separate from your political activities," he said, "and you have an obligation to inform us."
I have come to agree with him, and that is the reason for my having issued the press release below.

LATEST PORTER NOVEL RELEASED BY BRITISH PUBLISHER
The Porter for Congress campaign announced in a press release today that the British firm of Paul Mould Publishing has released Hannes Klar, the latest novel of Dr. Steven Porter. Porter is the Democratic candidate for Congress in the 3rd district of Pennsylvania running against six-term incumbent conservative Republican Phil English.
"Truth is stranger than fiction," said Porter about the novel, "and usually far more important. This story, while a work of fiction, is based on the memoirs of a real person, a person who began his life as a member of the Hitler Youth and Nazi army. Through a remarkable series of circumstances, he was transformed into a dedicated humanitarian, and his metamorphosis was so important to me that I had to write about it.
"I began this novel in the early 1990s and have spent many years researching the events and locations in the book. The journey of the main character from dedicated fascist to dedicated humanitarian contains in microcosm a hope for both the redemption and survival of our species.
"This hope in no small way is one of the motivations I feel in running for the Congress of the United States.
