Two new stories coming out of West Virginia that may be of interest to everyone.
First off, the mayor of South Charleston, Richie Robb, has announced he has switched his voter registration from Republican to Democrat. He ran in the Republican primary for Governor last year and is very, very popular in his part of the state. You can see more here: http://www.dailymail.com/...
More news after the flip
Secondly, Betty Ireland has stated she will not challenge Sen. Byrd. She is currently Secretary of State and in her first term. She mentions among her reasons that the moneymakers in the state are starting to cut checks to Sen. Byrd. When that starts to happen, you know he is going to be tough to beat. Finally, in West Virginia our Supreme Court is elected for 12 year terms in partisan elections. We elected our first Republican member in decades in the last election (On a personal note and I know I am in the minority of Democrats, but I was not sad to see the Democrat go). But now the CEO of Massey Coal has set his sights on one of the Democrats next up for election, Justice Larry Starcher. Massey has already helped to take out one Democrat Justice and also helped beat a special bond election earlier in the summer. This is a race worth watching in the upcoming cycle.
