The
Bowdoin Orient reports that Dan Schuberth, Secretary of the College Republican National Committee, has criticized fellow Bowdoin student, Alex Cornell du Houx, who is preparing to be called to active duty in Iraq as a U.S. Marine. Schuberth questioned Cornell du Houx's motives for serving in a statement aired on the Bowdoin Cable Network, and in an opinion expressed
in a Brunswick Times-Record article.
Schuberth said: "I find it troubling, however, that one of the most vocal opponents of our president, our country and our mission in Iraq has chosen to fight for a cause he claims is wrong." Shame on Schuberth. What choice does Cornell du Houx have? He's a marine; he's received (or will be soon receiving) an order to report to duty. Could he now run away? Perhaps... but do you think in that case, Schuberth or the College Republicans would be LESS likely to criticize him?
