For everyone gleefully writing off Howard Dean keep four things in mind:
First, despite the chatter here, his supporerters by and large haven't abandoned him. He has raised over $600,000 since Iowa. America will notice this.
Second, he has today's debate to make an impression. Now that expectations have effectively been lowered, if he comes across as the sober, rational guy he's been in politics for the last two decades, he can make another impression.
Third, his calendar is packed with town hall meetings - by far his best format. I think he should emulate Clinton and get one of them televised.
Fourth, he goes on Diane Sawyer on Friday night with Judy. That is the big moment for Dean and gives him the opportunity to finally redeem himself.
America loves the cycle of sin and redemtion and second chances. If you can re-introduce yourself and make people take a second look you have an opporutnity to turn things around rapidly.
Yeah, Dean may be down by a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, but if he regains his stride he can still pull it out with an error free last drive.
