AJC says that
within the next 2 years, GA Thugs are likely to try to push through a redraw of the state's Congressional districts, specifically targeting John Barrow (GA-12 Elect) and David Scott (GA-13).
So I guess we're the new Texas, only our governor looks like Barbie's pot-bellied drunken grandpa, not a gay porn star.
They also say that things like abortion and tort reform will be high on the list. Anti-gay hysteria will not be. Personally I don't think the fundies will allow them to ignore gay-bashing, but it makes sense to me. Perdue originally tried to campaign as being quasi-moderate on gay issues and the fundies wouldn't let him. But the fact that Johnny Isakson, the only GOP Senate candidate who did not spend most of his time in conniptions about homosexuals, won without a runoff, may have served as a wakeup call to the GA GOP. GOP rep Ann Chambers being reelected in a liberal district almost solely because of her vote against the anti-gay amendment may have helped as well. The corporate wing of the GOP aren't pleased with such overemphasis on the far-right types, but they laid down with the devil (I remember this summer when people were shocked that all the gay-bashing which was intended for the GA state GOP convention didn't materialize, almost as if someone stepped in a few days prior to the start of the convention and junked a lot of the rhetoric and bile which was prominent in the platform). Lots of talk about "activist judges", but nothing like you saw from DeMint in SC or Thune in SD or Coburn in OK. But like I said, I don't really think this will happen. The fundies really want a gay adoption ban and it's going to take a lot of pressure for that not to happen this session.
