Is it possible that we can continue to legitmately invoke the name of god in conjunction with our nation? God fearing folks believe that god has great love and forgiveness for the sins of people - but how much sin is too great for god? Does the christian god tolerate TORTURE at the hand of his/her children? When the news reports that we now have secret gulags in the service of our country we are no longer a nation under god.
Wiccans must be wringing their hands as such evil is meted out by our nation. Will such evil be served back to us threefold? The misery that might befall us by our wickedness is difficult to imagine, no?
But in the larger philosophical sense have we lost our soul. Have we lost our way? The nation is perilously close to having lost its moral authority among the ranks of nations. Despotic and cruel we seem to move across the globe executing what and whom we will without concern for the moral implications of our acts. The age of the great experiment is being forfeited to the age of neo-barbarism centered squarely upon the greed of the power hungry and wealthy.
Where do we find the ministers of god in the rise of powerful rulers of war, torture and death. If they cannot stand on the great rises and cathedrals of this once moral nation and cry to god to forgive us and extol upon us the need to turn from such wickedness then how can they say they ever spoke for god?
If you are a minister of any god reading these words know this. It is your sacred duty to warn the people of this nation, if not the earth, that such cruel inhumanities are not tolerated by the great spirit known as god by many and hoped for by agnostics. There can be no moral equivocation or tolerance for torture and secret prisons. You must preach for our nation to end such evil practices in the name of GOD. It is your duty to condemn these practices. Minister, pastors, priests, officiators and who ever else please show by your comments below that such intolerable acts must be ended NOW.
If you are a minister of god shaking your fist a the inidividual right to chose abortion but stand with your hands in your pockets about torturing living human beings what are you. You are a monster like those that commit such vile acts against humanity. If you are the faithful and turn away because such things offend you, then you are an enabler. You might as well be warming up the branding irons of interogation.
I suffer a lot of physical pain for health reasons. I would not wish it upon anyone. When I think that any person held in our secret prisons, out of the reach of law and decency may have telephone books slammed against their heads, the bottoms of the feet beat relentlessly, their heads held under water for minutes at a time, their genitals connefted to electric shocks, their bodies tied or chained to stress positions, their minds tricked into believing that they are being executed, burns, bones broken, teeth broken or pulled, finger and toe nails burned, pulled or assaulted - I cringe in despair for the moral soul of my country.
If you speak for god then speak against this today.

Update [2005-11-2 12:57:37 by Brother Dave]: Sadly this update is not news of our commitment to end these immoral practices. If you want to understand how we have embarked down such a dark path then read this website.
"The prisons were approved "by a small circle of White House and Justice Department lawyers and officials, according to several former and current U.S. government and intelligence officials." It helps explain why the White House wants to exempt the CIA from legislation banning the inhumane treatment of detainees.
Those responsible for justifying these policies are getting promotions. David S. Addington, Vice President Cheney's choice to replace Scooter Libby as his Chief of Staff, was a "principal author of the White House memo justifying torture of terrorism suspects." The memo said, "Congress may no more regulate the president's ability to detain and interrogate enemy combatants than it may regulate his ability to direct troop movements on the battlefield."
