Over the past several years, I have forced myself to listen to Bush's speeches, his interviews, his propaganda if you will, and although it has made me feel physically ill many times, I have carried on for love of my country. And over the years I have noticed a disturbing pattern that is actually funny if it weren't so damned scary. George Bush has a pathological need to remind us what his job as President entails. The problem is that he may not know what a president is actually supposed to do. The job description changes and morphs to fit the circumstances that he is talking about. For numerous examples, follow me below the fold.
Talking about terror: His job is to protect the American people. Talking about the war in Iraq. . .his job is to decide or maybe it's to confront big challenges and lead. Wait, maybe his job is foreign policy.
Or it could be:
"My job is to go out and explain to people what's on my mind. . ."
"My job is to think beyond the immediate."
"My job is worrying about those threats."
"My job is to pick people who will interpret the Constitution, not use the bench from which to write law."
"My job is to secure the homeland and that's exactly what we're going to do."
"My job as your President is to look at the world the way it is. And I clearly see the threats to America. My job is to worry about those threats."
"My job is to get good thinkers and get the best out of them."
"My job is to get people to the polls and, more importantly, to keep them there."
"My job is to lead and to solve problems."
"Well, David, I'm a results-oriented person, and my job is to achieve things for the American people ..."
"My job is to find that common sense way forward. . ."
"My job is to get good thinkers and get the best out of them."
"My job is to continue to save lives."
"My job is to herald success."
"One of my hardest parts of my job is to console the family members who have lost their life. . ."
"My job is to do my job, and make the decisions that I think are important for our country and ... "
"I think it's important for the American people to know that I understand my job is to set clear goals and deal with the problems we face."
"There is a -- look, my job is to submit budgets that will bring confidence to the marketplaces ..."
"You know my job is to be accurate, be fair, and in so far as it's humanly possible, to keep my ..."
"My job is to find that common sense way forward . . ."
Ok, I think you're sensing a pattern. And I could have continued to go on and on and on. I just took a few from the pages that popped up when I did a search for President Bush, "My job is . . ."
Actually many of you know that Bush's most important job is to defend and protect the Constitution of the United States. And he is failing miserably. He is in fact systematically shredding the document through premptive war, domestic spying, torture, signing statements and executive orders.
In a recent interview with David Gregory, Bush once again reminds us what his job is. . ."The enemy has got a powerful tool, and that is to get on your TV screen by killing innocent people, and my job is to continue to remind the people it's worth it."
No Mr. Bush, that is not your job. If you truly knew what your job was we wouldn't be in such a mess. Quit telling us what your job is Mr. Bush and start doing it.
