According to a document obtained by the Washington Times, in 1985 SCOTUS nominee Alito wrote:
"the Constitution does not protect a right to an abortion"..."I personally believe very strongly" in this legal position
While applying for a job with then Attorney General Edwin Meese, Alito was more forthcoming than I expect him to be during his upcoming hearing...because abortion wasn't the only subject he talked about:
"It has been an honor and source of personal satisfaction for me to serve in the office of the Solicitor General during President Reagan's administration and to help to advance legal positions in which I personally believe very strongly," he wrote.
"I am particularly proud of my contributions in recent cases in which the government has argued in the Supreme Court that racial and ethnic quotas should not be allowed and that the Constitution does not protect a right to an abortion."
Did you catch that? He believes in advancing legal positions that he feels strongly about...
That Alito is personally anti-choice and against affirmative action is not news. That he considers it an honor (and apparently a lot of fun) to use his position to advance his personally held beliefs is pretty damn disturbing...one might even say extraordinary.
