I know, I know, nwprogressive
already diared on this earlier today - please don't chastise me for covering the same subject.
He always posts his diaries early in the mornings, while I'm too busy to sit down and compose mine till later in the afternoon. But I still want to offer my thoughts on the work we've been doing over the past few weeks.
It's only been a month, but it's been an incredible ride, and it's still going. For those of you not familar with Pacific Northwest Portal - it's like a cross between a news aggregator, directory, and information clearinghouse for three states - Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.
Because the portal is powered by RSS, you can always get the latest viewpoints from many of the blogs in the region.
There's one major change we've made to our site which I am particularly proud of. It's one of the things nwprogressive mentioned this morning, but I'd like to draw special attention to it.
(more below the jump)
It's the 16x16 images we've added to our directory and frontpage. Next to each blog's name, you'll see the favicon image for that blog, and if it doesn't have a
favicon, you'll see a tiny screenshot.
Why did we do that? Well, since the images are small, they don't take up that much room. It enhances the power of the directory by giving you more than just a name - there's also an image there. It also allows you to preview what the site looks like, if it's a tiny screenshot.
Basically, it's about giving the blogs in our directory an identity to help you choose which ones you want to visit. There's so many, and we hope you visit them all, but we know that most people don't have the time nor the energy to do that. So, we've included these images to help you pick blogs that appeal to you.
NWProgressive has expertly chronicled the rest of the improvements in his diary this morning, so if you want the full scoop, click on the link.
Whether you have or haven't visited the portal before, I encourage you to visit now, and to come back often. You'll be glad you did.
