Overall, this is a decent, fairly well-balanced piece. If I were conservative I don't know that I could find much legitimately wrong with it. But, there is one egregiously wrong statement by NSA Advisor Stephen Hadley. Catch it on the b-side...
The White House has acknowledged that its intelligence was "wrong," as National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley has termed it. But Hadley and others insist the White House was acting in good faith, using the same intelligence that convinced many Democrats to support the use of force against Saddam Hussein.
It's the ol' one-two punch: 'Yeah, ok, now we realize the intel was bad. But everybody had the same intel so who's really to blame?'
BS.
But the Trib doesn't call Hadley on it. They let it stand. Not even a response from the Dems saying it's an inaccurate claim, let alone any reference to at least one of the many reports which have come out in the past year (esp. the past few weeks) indicating the White House was not revealing all the intel, meaning Capitol Hill (Dems and GOP alike) did not have the same information as 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
How do we, as regular citizens know this, but reporters don't (or worse, choose not to ignore it)?!?!
In a 5 minute Google search I found this material which disputes Hadley's assertion that Congress had what the WH had:
So, what to do? Politely let 'em know we know and ask that they include more context in the future...
