First off, does anybody know where to find and post a video link to Bush's endorsement of Jerry Kilgore Monday night? I just saw it last night - he was ranting and raving, waving his arms around, and
absolutely slurring his words - he looked more animated than I've seen him in many months, and that's not a good sign for a supposedly "reformed" drunk who's going through as bad a spell as he's had lately. He's mostly been looking hungover, or at very best "dry." All the way back to Kennedy, American presidents have had the best dope that money can buy, but even with the Ativan to control the shakes he's been barely able to speak sometimes lately - for god's sake, why do you think it took him three whole days to crawl out of his hole down in Crawford just to mumble a few words about Katrina? The following week, with his vitamin B-12 replenished, pumping Ativan, Prozac and who knows what else, he was back up and churning through photo-ops just like a "leader" again.
It could be comforting to think that with Karl Rove on the defensive and Bush drunk again, it might at least interfere with their ability and competence to inflict yet more harm to the republic, but it pays to remember that old drunks can be mean and Bush is backed way into a corner right now. Angry, threatened, frustrated, his judgment (what there is of it) ravaged by alcohol, his best "friends" and advisors all scurrying around trying to position themselves in a way to stay out of jail their own selves, what's a mean drunk to do? The traditional outlet for Presidents both fair and foul has been to start a new war, but he's already
got two blown ones.... What single occurrence might best allow Bush to re-seize control, show "leadership" (a noun these days, not a verb), what worked just so
fine before? The hotline to his BFF Prince Bandar is there a-waiting, red-suited Cheney's on his shoulder hissing evil in his ear and poking him with a pitchfork, ooh that scoundrel Bin Laden just makes me so
mad... what's to lose? Heaven help us all.
