Mark Warner:
I congratulate Ned Lamont on a great grassroots campaign, and wish him success in November. I and our PAC, Forward Together, will be supporting the Lamont campaign. Connecticut Democrats are mirroring the frustrations most Americans feel with this President's failed foreign policy and mishandled war. I also commend Senator Lieberman for his remarkable record of public service.
Republican wishful thinking notwithstanding, Tuesday's vote was anything but a Democratic party repudiation of a robust and determined defense of this nation's security. To the contrary, it is a call for a return to an American foreign policy that unites our friends and divides our enemies--and a call that will inevitably sweep through November's elections.
Republicans must be scratching their heads. No one outside the idiot chattering class seems to be buying their line about Lamont dooming Democrats this November. And even those dumbasses won't keep it up for long given the GOP's increasingly dire straits.
Fact is, the average person doesn't know or care who Ned Lamont is, and those that do -- like us -- are using it for extra motivation this November. I'm actually sort of bummed I'm going on vacation, when a few days ago I felt like I wouldn't make it to the end of the week. (Then I think of the beach, and I feel not so bummed.)
Meanwhile, Edwards is the first of hopefully many Democrats to trek to Connecticut to stump for Ned Lamont, heading out there on the 17th of August. Now, I don't know how much these visits matter (like the Clinton one for Joementum), but they can't hurt, especially if the trickle becomes an avalanche. And if nothing else, it's an excuse for the local media to give Lamont more positive coverage.
Lieberman, I'm sure, can garner great press when Karl Rove comes campaign for him.
