Charlie Schumer is at it again.
PoliticsNJ is reporting that Schumer leaked the appointment of Robert Menendez to the press before Gov-elect Corzine was ready to go public.
New York Senator Charles Schumer is being blamed for leaking news that Jon Corzine has decided to appoint Bob Menendez to the U.S. Senator, according to several sources close to Corzine and other Democratic leaders. The story first broke on CNN, followed by WCBS-TV in New York and the Associated Press. Schumer is the Chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. The DSCC says Schumer isn't the leak: "Their anger is misdirected," said Schumer spokesman Phil Singer. "We didn't do anything." (12/07/05)
It appears that not all is well in New Jersey since the November election. The
Inside Edge reports that there was growing frustration within the state over Corzine's selection process.
There are rumblings within the Democratic Party that Jon Corzine is bungling the selection of his successor to the United States Senate, the first major decision of the governor-elect's tenure. Democrats in Washington and in Trenton are complaining that by waiting more than a month after his election to name his successor, Corzine allowed presumptive Republican Senate nominee Tom Kean, Jr. to have a free pass at his press conference with NRSC Chair Elizabeth Dole this week -- something the Republicans did not give Corzine at his own gubernatorial announcement one year ago. Democrats are grumbling that by dragging out the announcement of his successor, Corzine is preventing the party from setting up a political operation that would have already challenged Kean on many of his positions and that by dithering on an announcement, Corzine is continuing to give Kean a free pass in the media while preventing an incumbent Democratic senator from gaining traction and seniority both in New Jersey and in Washington.
First of all, WTF, Charlie? First your wife endorses Bloomberg for NYC Mayor, then you try to torpedo Spitzer's campaign for Governor and now you're showing up Corzine. Do you get along with ANYONE?
Finally, WTF New York and New Jersey? Every time I read about what's going on out there, some Republican threatens to help out a Democrat (Pataki may help Spitzer if Golisano is nominated) and some Democrat threatens to help the Republicans. What's in the water up there?
