I did a diary yesterday (well, more of a rant than a diary) about Bush invoking the spectre of Pearl Harbor, comparing it to 9/11, and then comparing WWII soldiers and
their cause to the War in Iraq and
its cause. Needless to say I was more than a little chagrined at its use and, frankly, offended on the part of my family (who servced) at the comparison. I closed the diary by saying this:
I can't think of a better reason to invest my spirit, fueled by the memory of the service of my grandfathers, in removing from power those who fail to properly honor my family's service to our great country.
I was referring to the 2006 mid-term elections. It's time I put my money where my mouth is. More after the flip.
I'm not an election wonk. I have great admiration for those on this site who seem
so plugged in to all the elections going on across the country. The most I'm going to be able to do is deal with my own state - Virginia. I want to become a Virginia-elections specialist. Quickly.
I challenge fellow Kossacks from other states to step up and answer the call to educate the community on your state. Just one state. Do a diary about it. Write it however you want, but be sure to include the tag "Election 2006 dKosopedia" (this is very important!!). Start with your state's election page. I've even compiled all of them for you:
Some sites are better than others. It took me a bit of fishing around on Virginia's web site to find the page that talked about the offices up for election in November 2006 (look here if you're interested), but I found them and it will be my starting point.
I'd like a "kickoff" diary from each state. Important election deadlines (filing, primaries, voter registration etc.) offices up for election (national, state and local), incumbent name and party for each of the offices, and any information you can find by googling as to how the challengers are shaping up. This will help us immeasurably as we press forward. My plan is to transition information to the dKosopedia as a resource (additive of what is already there) for 2006.
Will you accept this challenge and claim a state to ge the ball rolling??
[editor's note, by RenaRF] I don't ask for recommendations and won't start now - I don't think this type of diary is the stuff of the recommended list - but if you could bookmark this and/or pass it around for broad participation, I would appreciate it. It will be sad if I only get something like three states claimed. :-)
