Lycos has posted their top 100 Searches for 2005. It is pretty darn depressing when you look at the results. I realize it is just Lycos, but when you look at 2004's results, you realize such searches as:
Iraq War (15th in 2004, 16th in 2003)
U.S. Army (68th in 2004, 81st in 2003)
George W. Bush (81st in 2004)
and other "issue-related" searches have just disappeared from the top 100. Yes, Hurricane Katrina was a very active search, ranking 10th in 2005, but that's really the only politically related search listed.
I'm not sure who even uses Lycos anymore, and it's possible that the search engine has devolved into primarily a celebrity search engine at this point, but this is certainly a sad and skewed way for users to look at and for the resources of the Internet.
