As I review the many strange positions and arguments that have won over the conservative heart in the United States today, I can't help but wonder the cause, the driving force. Americans are very critical of any governmental invasion of our home without proof of just cause, but the conservatives have until recently tolerated our government's invasion of another county even after public admission of none. The plight of the hard working taxpayer is a constant drum-beat with conservatives, but shifting of the tax burden from taxing wealth to taxing earnings has continued without interruption for five years. They praise our "freedom of the press" to other countries while attacking our "liberal press" here and then purchase "good" press with government dollars in both places. They spend thousands of lives and hundreds of billions of U.S. dollars to bring "freedom" to Iraq; one of their definitions of "freedom" is the allowance of dissent, and then attack dissent here as "aiding the enemy".
So what is it that drives these actions that are so un-American? There appears to be a parallel with their global view of being the only superpower. The logic being that we are the only superpower, so let's use it. Let's act like it. If you bring that logic home, conservatives have been the superpower in the policy arena in recent years. So they have decided to act like it and use it. To use it to do whatever they want. So, why do they do these un-American things, just because they want to. They are not concerned about who is going to pay, i.e., the huge debt, the global image, etc. It is the result of "absolute power" and absolute corruption. Unfortunately, it has purchased absolute allegiance from the conservatives in this county.
