2006 The Year The Chickenhawks will go home to roost

Wed Dec 28, 2005 at 01:07:09 PM PDT

Since hot, hot Camp Casey in August, some amazing grass roots actions have taken place all over the country. People are starting to speak up and Congress has begun to take action against the criminal and neo-Fascist regime that tried to take over America.
From Camp Casey to Katrina to use of chemical weaponry and extraordinary rendition to illegally spying on American citizens without due process, Bushco has miserably failed our country and the world. We as Americans said "enough is enough." We sacrificed a lot when we showed up in DC and other cities around the country in the hundreds of thousands to protest against and show that we withdraw any consent to be governed by murderous thugs. We started to peacefully, but forcefully resist the notion that this government has any right to govern us when they have betrayed their offices and their sacred trusts as "defenders" of the Constitution so horribly.

This was also the year that we also began to hold such Republicans in Democratic clothing like: Hillary Clinton, Joe Lieberman, Joe Biden, and Diane Feinstein (list is my no means all inclusive) accountable for their support of what George is doing in Iraq. When we as Democrats elect our leaders we expect them to reject and loudly repudiate the murderous and corrupt policies of this administration: not support and defend them.

There are Camp Caseys in front of Hillary's and Chuck Schumer's offices in Long Island every Friday, as well as one in front of Diane Feinstein's Los Angeles office on Fridays, also. There has been a Camp Casey in front of Kay Bailey Hutchinson's office in Dallas since August. Several protestors have been arrested in Dallas exercising their First Amendment rights. We need to let these warmongers, as well as the Republican warmongers, know that we mean business when we say "bring them home now." Set up Camp Caseys in front of your Senator's or Congress person's office if they support George in his wars of aggression.

Gold Star Families for Peace ( www.gsfp.org) is planning many activities for the first part of 2006. I would like to give you all a heads up on them, so you can make your plans accordingly to support us and to join us if at all possible.

On January 31st , we will be in Washington, DC for the State of the Union address when George gets in front of Congress and the world and lies through his teeth about how great everything is going in Iraq and here at home. His idiotic policies have ruined Iraq and New Orleans and made the world a more dangerous place...allowing that terrorist attacks have tripled world wide since he decided to "fight them over there." He also may be laying the ground work for further acts of needless aggression against Syria and Iraq. GSFP and representatives from other peace organizations and refugees from New Orleans will be gathering in DC to give the "Real State of the Union."  Check our website for place and time.

For the Love of God, Can't you Make Him Stop? Recently, it was revealed that George only interacts with four people: Laura, Condi, Karen Hughes and his Mom. His Mom, the Ice Queen who didn't want her "pretty mind" burdened with the images of flag draped coffins coming home, lives in Houston. On President's Day, (Feb. 20) we will be demonstrating in front of her house to implore her to forget about the obscene profits that her family and their friends are making off of this occupation and to beg her to finally do the right thing and make her son stop this insane war OF terror against the world. George and Dick are defiling the highest offices of the world and they need to resign. On President's Day, when we have the day off, we need to demonstrate against the ones who are illegitimately in power, anyway. If you can't make it to Houston, organize your own President's Day protest.

The Camp Casey Peace Foundation will hold its first annual Peace Festival and Concert on April 4, 2006. April 4 th is the day Casey and Martin Luther King, Jr were killed. We want to turn it into a true day for celebrating peace. The Camp Casey Peace Foundation will be awarding the Casey Sheehan Peace Prize, a cash prize, to a young peace activist every year. We want to foster the growth of solving problems non-violently and young people are the ones who get killed in the gray haired old men's wars. We are working on an exciting event and we will announce more details as the event draws closer.

Camp Casey Easter edition: We will be heading back to our leased land in Crawford April 11th to Easter, which is April 16th. Easter is a time of renewal and hopeful promises. Casey was killed on Palm Sunday and his body was returned to us in the cargo section of a United Airlines flight on Holy Saturday and we buried him two days after Easter. Last Easter Season was so painful to us. This Easter we will again be demonstrating in front of the man's home who is responsible for such pain and abject heartache in the world. But, we will be there with a renewed sense of hope that the Chickenhawks will be sent out to pasture this year. Like Michael Moore, I want to be a fly on the wall when Bush and company are hauled out of the White House in handcuffs. Impeachment is not necessary for people who never were elected...eviction is what is needed. If you can't join us in Crawford, set up your own Camp Casey near you.

In 2005, we learned that we have the power. We learned that we can't rely on the propaganda media or the empty promises of most of our elected leadership. We learned that we need to be the change that we desire to see.

We learned that one person can and does make a difference.

We cannot relax in 2006. We cannot slip back into the evil of apathy and complacency that the neocons rejoice in. We need to keep pounding, working, and fighting.  We need to support organizations like Gold Star Families for Peace, Veterans for Peace (www.veteransforpeace.org ), Code Pink (www.codepink4peace.org)  and Iraq Veterans Against the War (www.IVAW.net ), or the Peace organization of your choice so we can continue our struggle for peace with justice. We need to support true American patriots like John Conyers who is calling for an investigation and censure for the lies that have cost us so much of our national human treasure.

2006 will be a great year for the people of our country. I know it.

It won't be easy, but we will prevail and the struggle will be worth it.

  •  let us know (4.00 / 3)

when and where you want us to show up. And please specify if certain events should be other gold star families or if anyone should attend.  We've all got enough time now to arrange transportation to Texas to torment King George when he goes there.
    •  everything (4.00 / 15)

      i mentioned is for everyone!!
      •  Great, thanks (4.00 / 4)

I went to DC in Sept... I just don't want to get in the way because I definitely don't have any "skin in the game" so to speak.

This weekend I went home and I was talking to my mom about my brother - who is 20 and making one big fat mess of his life. He's been convicted of felony marijuana charges, kicked out of college, and he's gotten obese.  She said "He is exactly the sort of kid who would really benefit from the military, except we're in a war we don't believe in."  She's right, too.  The military would be great for him. Just not under this president.

      •  Cindy (none / 0)

We know that you are doing all this for Casey and yourself. That is what makes it all so genuine.

        But that being the case...

We are all grateful for being along for the ride.

Move America forward is the front group being used to accomplish this.

Kos has a thread these were linked in today.
        MAF counterprotested Sheehan
Cindy Sheehan was countewrprotested by Move America at several locations including Crawford , Texas where Karl Rove personally thanked those in attendance.

        It's no coincidence."

        Irony

Move America Forward is literally a horse's ass. they paint slogan "Go home Cindy" on a horse's butt at crawford.
Rove met the anti-Cindy mob and MAF:

Move America Forward and Karl Rove.

Interestingly, Michael Chertoff's Homeland Security Department appointed a man who is currenbtly an anti-Cindy protestor in Texas.
Rawstory.com links this AP piece: http://news.yahoo.com/....

"Several families of fallen U.S. soldiers attended the rally, including John Wroblewski and his wife from Jefferson Township, N.J. The couple, whose oldest son, Marine 2nd Lt. John Thomas Wroblewski, died in Iraq last year, said they disagree with Sheehan's beliefs that Bush misled Americans about the reasons for the war.

"We're not for war. I don't think anybody is ... but we've got to complete the mission," John Wroblewski said."

Strangely enough Chertoff appointed a John Wrobleski in Homeland Security.www.usdoj.gov/opa/pr/2001/July/362crm.htm "The Criminal Division has also recommended that Roger Pauley, Chief for Legislation in the Office of Policy and Legislation, be appointed as a member of the Board of Immigration Appeals. Jonathan Wroblewski, currently Acting Chief for Policy, will serve as Acting Section Chief."

Their undiminished GOP stance continues, to the point of attacking Cindy Sheehan and other Gold Star families.  Neocon heros bought and paid for...

Again this simply shows the way media voices, against Cindy, that appear credible, have deep abiding vested conflicts of interest on the whole.

Cindy is showing more personal determinism than her critics. For others to be used in light of their loss against hers is unfortunate for all who have lost or will lose theirs in this.

Please, those able confirm the Chertoff contact. The fact Chertoff was counsel to a man with suspected ties of funding Al Qaeda through HMO scams in New Jersey is alarming enough. The Homeland Security/FEMA fiasco shows the man to be unqualified. His previous best experience dealing with terror appears to be having been the man given responsibility of the post 9-11 attempt to cover things up and deny families closure. Ironically the wars we started go back to the 9-11 slogan.

Again please contact Gray Davis re: Move America Forward. They campaigned against him and helped raise petition for ballot initiatives. Their funding should face scrutiny under standard disclosure as a result. Davis literally has grounds to aquire the entire funding information for Move America Forward, the partisan political operative hit squad that claims Cindy and the Gold Star Mothers are the "professional portestors" and that they are simply the mom and pop heartlanders.

Turns out it's the other way around. Typical Bushco projectionism. Rove fronts for media manipulation and money laundering become front page news in their efforts to smear a veteran's mom.

The Gold Star families are a National Treasure. Pray for those who have had the same loss and still support AWOL. They'll need that prayer and support when they end the denial phase of grieving.

Such Karmic endeavors will help the Gold Star Mothers for Peace and Truth elevate others to their level. On the moral high ground theirs pledged to defend.

        Bless you, Cindy!

Take the fight to them. The Truth is on your side. The Moral Arc of the Universe is Long, and it bends toward Justice.

    •  Cindy! xoxoxo ... hugs. (none / 1)

      Cindy,

You are doing a fantastic job, rolling out a great line up for the new year.  I see you mentioned protest in Long Island. Are Schumer or Hillary's offices in Manhattan being "visited" too? Id like to pay them a visit.

I have been extremely fed up with Hillary ever since before the war, when she was helping to smoothly usher it in, and have been so glad to see you keeping your promise to go after these Republicratic members of our too-big tent, like her, Feinstein, et al.  As for Schumer, my disgust meter got topped by him recently after his horrid statement on one of the Sunday shows about how he would still have this war again, thank you, despite no WMD. Said it like he was ordering a fucking cappaccino!

Please let me know and please stay in touch with us.

Peace and good tidings in the new year! Thanks for all you did in the last one.

  •  Please don't forget policy (4.00 / 2)

    Cindy,

Thanks so much for this post!  Glad to see you on Daily Kos.  I wish that the movement would focus not just on Iraq, but on one of the causes of this war - OIL!  I wish your movement would discuss getting off of oil dependency, CAFE standards, and renewable fuels.  Just mention it to reflect the solution we have to global wars over resources that will take many more lives, and cause many more mothers to suffer at the hands of a greedy corporate government.  Thank you for heeding my words.

Thanks Cindy - I am part of a group of progressive Democrats promoting solutions to problems at the forefront of our cause.  We know that President Bush has NO solutions for any of America's problems, especially since he is creating most of them!

      •  Dearest Cindy, (none / 0)

I was happy to see you on c-span speaking at Berkley and very much enjoyed it (the whole family was assembled in fron of the tv for the duration), but may I suggest something to make your appearances even more effective?  When talking about Iraq's oil, the public needs to hear facts and figures to really drive that point home.  It is not all that easy to come by these data, (we have been trying to find reliable info about that ourselves,  with very meager results), but we trust you will be able to do it.

With love from all of us.

        •  I too saw you on C-Span (none / 0)

And have been following you since your first post announcing you were on the way to Crawford. I liked what you said in response to Matthews who wondered how you got to know so much and to CNN producer who said you were just lucky it was a slow news week. Keep reminding people how Bush behaved so badly when he met the group of you. Keep asking for accountability even as you set your ultimatums. No one has more legitimacy to demand Out Now than Gold Star Mothers. At the same time, I applaud your confrontations on all fronts. Whether it comes to Impeachment Resolutions, a demand that Congress perform its oversight role, or the bizarre scenario that will be playing out in the Courts that hear the appeals of the suspected terrorists in relation to unconstitutional wiretaps, citizens are starting to wake up to the lies.  All the best to you.
        •  thanks (4.00 / 2)

          i will try
i know the oil companies and the halliburtons have made INSANE and OBSCENE profits..we are all for capitalism, but this is immoral.
Halliburton's profits were 3000 percents above the previous year...according to my buddy Randi Rhodes...and I know Randi triple checks all of her facts.

      happy new year

I am really interested in your reflections on your visit to the UK.

I thought you came across on Hardball very well - I also caught a couple of your other media appearances here.

How did you find how you were handled over here by the media compared to the States - given, of course, that you and your cause do not have the same resonance over here?

        •  the media (none / 1)

in europe seem more well informed than our media.

the media that was most like ours was in Great Britain...

The media that was less like ours was in Spain.

This is the question I got the most in Europe:

How could the people of your country re-elect George Bush and why is he still in power?
          Two extremely difficult questions.

  •  Great title, Cindy (none / 1)

You deserve a ton of thanks for the work you've done to force the media to pay attention to BushCo's malfeasance. It obviously scares the pants off the Bush sycophants to hear someone speak as strongly as you do here.

You're my Person of the Year, regardless of what Time decided. You have indeed made a huge difference. Count this veteran on-board to help keep the pressure on BushCo.

Can someone with photoshop skills post an appropriately altered TIME cover on this thread?  Or should we wait for the spate of year end diaries on Saturday?

I already know that I can't join you at Holy Week because that is the busiest time of the year in my line of work, but I will be with you in spirit just as I was last August, sending you prayer support and doing whatever I can from afar.

...to forward the link to your diary to some of my co-activists in the Tampa Bay area who are very much involved in protesting the Iraq War and also have a Tampa Bay-area Camp Casey vigil every Friday? I think Jay A. and his friends would love to spread the word about the GREAT actions you all have planned for January, and would love to keep involved!

You're dead on re: not relaxing in '06. It's going to take every one of us to effect real change in the House and Senate, and peacefully and democratically overthrow this neo-thug regime.

    Kudos for all you do,

    boof

  •  Thank you, Cindy! (none / 0)

You are doing well, you are doing good work, and every time I hear more I admire you more.  I still have my "America Stands With Cindy" placard from the original vigils in my window.

More Americans could do with some of your character and determination.  Thank you again.

  •  I always wanted to ask this.... (none / 0)

Cindy, when you go to protest on Easter, would you consider wearing an 'Impeach' shirt?
  •  Thanks for keeping us up to date. (none / 0)

One of the main things I have been reading is that Iraq is about to break up into three different countries at least. The ancient hatreds there are running high. Any solution on Iraq, regardless of when we decide to pull out, must involve letting the Iraqi people decide how best to break up and how best to prevent these hatreds from exploding into a full-fledged Middle Eastern conflict.
    •  i have talked (none / 1)

to many Iraqis who don't think that will happen
They say the Americans are fomenting this false idea of civil war.

the towns are all mixed between the 3 groups...with much intermarriage and peaceful coexistence for many decades...

like John Kerry says: our military presence there is the problem, not the solution...

      with that, I agree

      •  Then: (none / 0)

What do you make of this article, which details Kurdish plans to break away and form their own country with violence if they think it is necessary? These were rank and file Kurdish soldiers in the Iraqi army talking.

But whether they stay one country or whether they decide to break up into three countries, the Iraqi people should decide this peacefully and for themselves. I agree that our presence is not helping because many Iraqis see the current government as puppets of the US. We should change our role from being the street bully to being a facilitator for peace. And Kerry has a lot of good ideas for achieving that.

All I am saying is that any peace plan, regardless of whether you support immediate withdrawal or something else, should take into account the possibility of civil war. I am a chess player, and I have to take into account every single possibility when planning my next move. If you don't, and you hang your queen, you lose.

But even if a civil war is inevitable, which it is not, given what you say about Iraqis of different backgrounds living together for many years, that still does not justify an indefinite presence there. Senator Boxer pointed out in an interview a few months ago that our presence there has made the Iraqi government dependent on us instead of taking responsibility for their own welfare. Similar to a nanny state. I am surprised that so many right-wingers don't get it.

chicken crap "leaders" are stepping out.

stepping outta the batter's box, stepping outta the fight, stepping outta georgie's way,

    stepping outta leadership.

I am not making excuses for the bit that is comfy in my life and my lack of interest in jeopardizing that bit, however,

There are 435 members of congress, 100 senators, the executive chickenhawks, and 9 members of SCOTUS.

too few of those first 2 sets who are supposedly on our side are fighting these crooks, and from my 20 or 35 years of watching politics, voting, being a campaign grunt for a few hours a month and few bucks a year,

most of those supposedly on our side are ONLY leaders w.t.o. staying in charge and living large off the aggregate of my and my fellow citizens few hours and few bucks.

Dems have been seeking that elusive middle since the thugs convinced Dems that the silent majority elected nixon against hippies in chicago and against mcgovern, or the middle needed strength in Raygun after the 70's stagflation ...

or the f*$#%ing crap about "values" voters voting for this criminal enterprise in DC.

Our "leaders" are hiding under the bed, afraid of what the thugs will say about them,

    INSTEAD of fighting back,

because they can't play politics in the big leagues the way politics has been played for decades -

    • cuz they are incomptent at anything but staying in charge of our lame "party",

    • or, cuz they are corrupt.

    it is about that simple.

Thank you also for all you do. You are inspirational, dedicated, intelligent and to be congratulated for your efforts to throw the corrupt creeps out of office.

Keep it up, Cindy!! We're all behind you.

by sharing your pain with America, you opened a lot of eyes.

You also showed the Coward from Crawford what real courage looks like...and he hid from you...fucking beautiful.

Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.

    Cindy:

Thank you very much for your leadership.

Having a vision of Peace and remaining true to it takes strength and determination.

I too am looking forward to the veils of illusion, lies and deceit being stripped away from our eyes in 2006.

    Your work is historically priceless.

2006 is going to be a GOOD year for humanity.

    Happy New Year!

for continuing your good work for this country.  You got great press here on DKOs for your European trip.  I hope your visits there will demonstrate that not everyone here in the US is like Bush so that someday we can salvage our relations with the countries there.

Thanks again for standing up and speaking out!

And a Loud Applause From All:

The Most Valuable Progressives of 2005

    MVP -- Citizen Branch:

In August, when Democrats leaders in Washington were still talking about working with the Bush administration on Iraq -- effectively leaving Americans who were growing increasingly ill-at-ease about the war without a voice in the chambers of power -- the mother of a slain soldier followed Bush to his Crawford, Texas, ranchette and asked him to take a few minutes away from his month-long vacation to talk about the quagmire. Cindy Sheehan put the issue of the war back at the forefront of the national agenda, forcing even the dysfunctional White House press corps to start covering dissenters and getting D.C. Democrats to wake up to the reality that the American people had lost faith in the president and his military misadventure.

    •  i called (4.00 / 2)

george a lying bastard in june in a speech i gave...the press was all over that one...

they would say: is it true you called the president a lying bastard...(when they knew it was true)...and do you regret it?

I would say "yes and no"...he lied and my oldest child is dead. Why do you scrutinize what I say so assiduosly and give George Bush a free pass on anything he says...he said Saddam had WMD's and no one questions him...he says all of our troops are dying for a "noble cause" and no one asks what that noble cause is.

George Bush is a liar...the bastard part, I am not too sure of. He looks like his dad.

  •  Welcome Back (4.00 / 2)

    Cindy,

Thank you for the updates and for keeping up the fight of our lives.  One day America will awaken from this nightmare.  Until then, through your courage, there is hope.  My prayers are with you and your family.  Don't forget, there are thousands of us Texans who are behind you one hundred percent.

  •  Great diary, Cindy! (4.00 / 3)

I'm so glad that you posted here tonight!  I tried to email you at your old email address and it bounced.  I need your help!

As you may recall, I'm finishing my PhD in Public Policy.  My dissertation will compare the levels of violence seen in the U.S. occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan and suggest reasons for the differences (like how our policies are different...and result in different reactions from the nations we are occupying).  My soldier son was the inspiration for both my going back to school and my dissertation topic - he says that his current tour in Kandahar is vastly different from his tour in Baghdad.

I'm travelling as part of a delegation from Global Exchange (one of Medea Benjamin's organizations) to Afghanistan in March.

The dates are March 05, 2006 - March 14, 2006.  Yes, I'm serious.  I'm going.  I'm trying to raise money for the trip - Global Exchange has a small scholarship for a portion of the expenses, and they request that applicants have letters submitted from people who are aware of applicant's political activities.  I was wondering if you could take a few minutes and write a recommendation for me?  If you can write the letter, you can either email it back to me (sharonjumper@hotmail.com) for inclusion in my application packet, or fax or mail it to:

    Global Exchange Reality Tours
2017 Mission St. Suite 303, San Francisco, CA 94110
    Phone: 415-255-7296 Fax: 415-255-7498

The official program will focus on women and the improvement of their lives to date in Afghanistan.  I'm also trying to plan a side trip to Kandahar to see my son.

    Thanks, Cindy!

of you when you start to speak only the truth?

You may be holding onto the residual thought that Cindy, because of her loss and historic response to it, is different from you or I or the rest of us.

She just got triggered by a unique combination of events, and has never looked back.  Any one of us could allow the events we have experienced and observed, combined with the education and Conscience we all possess, to trigger our "Cindy Response."

Why wait until each of us suffers a similar loss to force us to get started?
