This is a question that's been bouncing around in my head for a while now. It's not anything too practical for the moment, but it may apply in the future. As we all know there has been a quiet movement to get the country's draft boards restocked, which sort of hints that a draft is coming if King George II is re-coronated in 2004.
Yeah, it also could mean nothing, but just for a moment let's assume that Bush is reelected and the draft is reinstated. Now people are being called up to serve in the military against their will. But the military also has another policy known as "Don't ask, don't tell".
My question is what happens if you're standing before the draft board and you claim you're homosexual (whether you really are or not)? Do they suddenly turn all white in the face and send you packing, or do they take you anyway?
Even if the board accepts you, let's say you get to bootcamp and go around telling everyone you're gay. That would be a blatant violation of DADT...so what happens? Anything? Nothing? I just don't see how both the draft and DADT can coexist unless it means everyone gets a "get out of the military free card".
What do you think?
