Yeah, You Heard Me Right

Mon Feb 14, 2005 at 12:57:20 PM PDT

(Cross Posted from MyDD, promoted from the diaries -- kos)

I've got something to say.

What we need are Democratic strongmen who will walk up to those conservatives in favor of the war and punch them in the face.

We need Janet Reno to find these hawks, have ATF agents with automatic weapons arrest them, and place them in an offshore prison where we can hold them without charges and declare them enemy combatants.

Maybe this is all too elaborate. Perhaps we should just drop bombs on their homes.

We do this because they are enraged at the prospect of being tolerant.

We do this because they are not real patriots.

We would rather hit them with baseball bats than talk to them.

It is easy to hate them, because they hate the military.

And their Presidential nominee, George Bush, is off his lithium. He's lost his mind. He's a mental patient. He's taken the side of the enemy. He's pulled his raft across the river of sanity. He's insane. He needs help. He needs medication. His biggest fans are Al-Aqaeda. He suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. He is perverse.

And Bill O'Reilly is just like Goebbels.

And Osama Bin Laden will keynote the next Republican National convention.

And Representative Bill Thomas is a fascist.

The only reason Cheney doesn't die because hell is temporarily full.

Maybe I would be more forgiving if their magazines didn't hate America. But they do.

For that matter, George Bush is also anti-American.

Which isn't surprising, since some Republicans are not on the side of their own country.

And their wealthiest donors give money to aid terrorists.

Which leads you to conclude that Bush is not qualified to be a guard at Abu Gharib.

Republican activists are out of control and repulse Americans.

Although once and a while conservative hate--liberal groups point out that I make a mistake.

Even if they have dementia and form the insane wing of the Republican Party.

But don't forget that they are objectively pro-Bin Laden.

Which should be expected from NASCAR thugs.

Who are borderline traitorous.

They must prove their patriotism.

Nah, forget it. All conservatives are traitors.

For example, NewsMax publishes traitors.

Especially traitorous is Tony Blankley, and he should be prosecuted.

The problem is that they carry the flag of the enemy, and lavish love upon fascists.

Another problem is that their elected officials blame the troops when things go wrong.

And their positions are based on anti-semitism.

They are fascists and self-declared enemies of America.

We should shoot them.

Hopefully, then they would stop being appeasers.

But I should mention that Tommy Franks is a mega-loser.

And demented (of course).

And that the terrorists wanted Bush to win.

And Republicans are racist.

They want Saddam back.

Its too bad more of them were not aborted.

Because God is certainly not a Republican, and Jesus preferred Kerry over Bush.

But, after reading this, I don't want them to get the wrong idea, because I am not questioning their patriotism.

And I am not questioning their right to speak.

I am just a regular guy speaking his mind.

So please, forgive me if I made any misrepresentations in this article.

Thank you, and peace out.

      •  Anyone remember "death to the klan day" (none / 0)

in North Carolina on Nov. 13, 1979 there was a "death to the klan day" march.  They meant death metaphorically, of course, but the klan showed up with weapons, killed 5 and wounded 10.  They got off because the name of the march was threatening.

I've always though that Ann Coulter should have learned a lesson from that.

  •  Minds (4.00 / 11)

This is pretty brilliant, on par with Wilhelm's legendary rant.

What has driven me nuts is that every time a conservative says some shit like this, it gets laughed off as "a joke - don't you liberals have a sense of humor?" By collecting it all in one place, Chris demonstrates conclusively that these remarks form a pattern of abusive statements and are certainly not a joke.

Of course, this line of argumentation only works in the reality-based community. It won't change any GOP/RWCM minds one bit.

  •  Wonderful... (2.11 / 9)

    •  Links (none / 1)

Follow the links. They all go to remarks Republicans have made advocating the things Chris is "claiming" to support. He is trying to point out the unfair double-standard by which Republicans get off scott-free for making outrageous remarks about liberals, but Democrats get excoriated if they say anything remotely critical of the other side.
    •  Are you missing something?? (none / 0)

      Probably.

The first time I read it I felt like I had been trapped in the same room as Ann Coulter, Limbaugh and O'Brien all at once.

But something was wrong. The targets didn't fit the right wing rant. And we don't do that.

      Do we?

Then I went back and checked the links.

The statement says (between the lines but extremely clearly - It's a Democratic Party/left-wing thing. Requires advanced reading skills and focus.) that the right-wing can say anything they like with impunity, and they protect, promote and pay the most extreme of them happily. Yet if you or I say stuff like that we are screamed down as extremists, as they have been doing with Michael Moore.

I don't see the humor either. But I saw no humor Dachau, either. I don't think it indicates a lack of a sense of humor if you fail to find laughter in some situations.

Things that make  you think a little........

There were 39 combat related killings in  Iraq during January....

In the fair city of Detroit there were 35  murders in the month of January.

That's just one American  city, about as deadly as the entire war torn country of Iraq.

      Isn't it interesting.....

FDR...led us into World War II.

Germany never  attacked us: Japan did.

From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost, an  average of 112,500 per year.

Truman...finished that war and  started one in Korea, North Korea never attacked us.

From  1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost, an average of 18,334 per  year.

John F. Kennedy. ..started the Vietnam conflict in 1962.  Vietnam never attacked us.

     Johnson...turned Vietnam into a  quagmire.

From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost, an average of 5,800  per year.

Clinton...went to war in Bosnia without UN or French  consent,

     Bosnia never attacked us.

He was offered Osama bin  Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama  has attacked us on multiple occasions.

In the years since terrorists  attacked us President Bush has

.....liberated two countries, crushed  the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran  and North Korea without firing a shot,  and captured a  terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.

The Democrats are  complaining about how long the war is taking, but...It took less time  to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the  Branch  Davidian compound. That was a 51-day operation.

We've been looking for  evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less time than it took  Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.

It  took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to  destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Ted Kennedy to call  the  police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chapaquiddick.

It  took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in  Florida!!!!

Our Commander-In-Chief is doing a GREAT JOB! The Military  morale is high!

The biased media hopes we are too ignorant to  realize the facts.

     Wait, there's  more.......................

JOHN GLENN ON THE SENATE  FLOOR

     Date: Mon, 26 Jan 2004 11:13

Some people still don't  understand why military personnel do what they do for a living. This  exchange between Senators John Glenn and  Senator Howard Metzenbaum is  worth reading. Not only is it a pretty impressive impromptu speech, but  it's also a good example of one  man's explanation of why men and  women in the armed services do what they do for a living.

This IS a typical, though sad, example of what some who have never  served think of the military.

Senator Metzenbaum to Senator Glenn:  "How can you run for Senate when you've never held a real  job?"

Senator Glenn: "I served 23 years in the United States Marine  Corps.

I served through two wars. I flew 149 missions. My plane was  hit by  anti-aircraft fire on 12 different occasions. I was in  the space program.

It wasn't my checkbook, Howard; it was my  life on the line. It was not a nine-to-five job, where I took time off  to take the daily cash receipts to  the bank. I ask you to go  with me ... as I went the other day... to a veteran's hospital and  look those men - with their mangled bodies - in the  eye, and  tell THEM they didn't hold a job! You go with me to the Space Program  at NASA and go, as I have gone, to the widows and Orphans of Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee... and you look those kids in the eye  and tell them that their DADS didn't hold a job.

You go with me on Memorial Day and you stand in Arlington National Cemetery, where I have more friends buried than I'd like to remember, and you watch those waving flags.

You stand there, and you think about this nation, and you tell ME that those people didn't have a job? I'll tell you, Howard Metzenbaum; you  should be on your knees every day of your life thanking God that there were some men - SOME MEN - who held REAL jobs. And they required a  dedication to a purpose - and a love of country and a dedication to duty - that was more  important than life itself. And their self-sacrifice is what made this country possible.

I HAVE held a job, Howard! What about you?"

For those who don't remember - During W.W.II, Howard Metzenbaum  was an attorney representing the Communist Party in the USA.

      Now he's a Senator!

If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you are  reading it in

English thank a Veteran. It might not be a bad idea to  keep this circulating....

    •  Who are these idiots? (4.00 / 4)

Sure, Germany declared war right after Japan attacked, and many in the Wehrmacht were pissed at Hitler for this.
N Korea invaded first. It's just that the US was kinda allied and wanted to protect its proxy state in the South.
Beside, are they actually advocating that both fighting Nazis and Commies was a bad thing? Weird, usually, that's what they would tell about liberals and progressives, who are too soft with bullies.
Oh, and did the Glenn /Metzenbaum stuff actually happened? My bet is it's just another GOP hoax.

Of course, all of this putrid drivel is at least 1-year old and is the same kind of crap than the stupid mail about how the US Army has rebuilt countless schools and now Baghdad has 38 hours of electricity a day.

Things that make  you think a little........

Would that the author of this email did think a little. At least enough to restrict his ellipses to three periods would be good start.

There were 39 combat related killings in  Iraq during January....

Not counting the Iraqis dead.  That's thirty nine dead soldiers out of a total population of about 130,000 of them.  In a month.

In the fair city of Detroit there were 35  murders in the month of January.

So these thirty five were, like, all cops?  Thirty five cop-killings in one month?  Yeah, that sounds like a dangerous city to be walking the beat in.

That's just one American  city, about as deadly as the entire war torn country of Iraq.

'cos everyone knows little brown ragheads don't  count as proper "dead people".  The DoD sure isn't counting them, and the media wouldn't mention the number if they did.

           Isn't it interesting.....

Interesting what a maroon this guy is.

Say you had 10,000 shootings a year in America.  That would indeed be a scandal.  But there are more than that in Iraq, a country with a tenth of America's population.  And you ain't had 1,500 dead cops since 2003.  Or 15,000 wounded cops.

But hey, if Iraq's safe, then this guy will have volunteered to go out there.  You have volunteered, right, Jonah?

There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq during January....

How many Iraqi civilians were killed in January? How many children became sick or died of malnutrition? Seems like I read that over 50% of Iraqi children are currently malnourished. How many people with chronic copnditions like diabetus or high blood pressure died in January because they don't have medical care or access to the medications that make those chronic conditions instead of killers?

The comparison to Detroit doesn't work very well, and to the extent that it does it is a symptom of how poorly the American underclass lives. Sort of like (I think) the 4th Ward in Houston, or the Stop Six neighborhood in Fort Worth. But you can drive through those during daylight pretty safely. They aren't ~quite~ battlegrounds. But they have been, and recently.

Not that those guys have any dignity... but they are full of themselves.

      •  So what in Hell ~IS~ a modern Liberal?? (none / 0)

Personally I believe strongly in a constitutional government with personal rights built into the constition, a government based on the sovereignty of the people reflected by honest, regular elections, and an independent judiciary that enforces the rule of law.

I believe in freedom of speech supported by a free and independent investigative Press. Consolidation of the Press and control the sources with which the Press is paid are inherently dangerous to a free nation with free speech.

Religion should be free from government influence. At the same time, no religion should be allowed to make official government policy or have a veto on what is government policy. (See the marriage issues that are current.) There should never be any merger of government or religious administrative organizations.

Government is the only institution that has responsibility for all of society. If you want statistics that accurately measure what is happening in society and the economy, the only semi-reliable source is government. The family has no other protection than government.

For all its productivity, the free market with all-knowing independent buyers and sellers is a very rare occurrence. Government authorizes the players to act in the market (corporations and other organizations) and enforces contracts while limiting what can be contracted (no illegal drugs or other criminal activity, no child labor, etc.)

There are some functions which the free market performs abysmally. Public health is one. Financing individual health care is another. So is financing basic research (see the comment on collecting information.) Another is social-level retirement planning, as opposed to individual-level retirement planning.

The government is also the only institution that independently measures the degree to which the market is operating with free decisions between  buyers and sellers. The alternative is a "fake" market that is controlled by the power on one side (buyer and seller) against the weakness on the other. But this is a continuum, not two clear categories. Such things as monopoly power by buyer or seler or almost all power relations between employers and unorganized employees are key examples. These things must be either regulated by government or the rules must be placed on the market that prevents such power pervsions of the economic processes.

As an example, within a corporation there are three major groups - stock-owners, managers and employees. The distribution of the profits of the organization is often not a free market transaction. The party with the most power gets the most reward. CEO's today generally control the Board of Directors (since the CEO appoints them) that theoretically sets their pay and our culture permits anti-union acrtivity without repercussion. At the moment the US government favors CEO's, mildly discriminates against stockholders, and strongly discriminates against labor.

So am I a Liberal? Or just a Democrat?

I don't recognize whatever it is the right-wing defines as a liberal.

The New York Republican Party is in shambles," the state Democratic chairman Denny Farrell said. "You are broke and fighting among yourselves. Governor (George) Pataki's popularity ratings have sunk to record lows. In the last decade, you have lost seats in both houses in Albany, both houses in Washington, statewide and in counties across the state. Come back to us after you have won a few races," Farrell added.

to mention violence at all, even in a rant filled with hyperbole and irony.

This is serious business and everyone here is under a microscope.

No death threats - no matter that they are not seriously intended.

    •  Did you click the links? (4.00 / 9)

Dude, they were reversals of things Republicans have said in the past.  Every single quote up there was just taking a GOP statement and replacing "Republican" with "Democrat".

They hate us, man.  If they had a chance they'd rip through us like angry Hutus through a Tutsi village.  Click the links.  Read what they say.  They're talking about you and me.

This is the new face of the right wing.  I for one am glad people are finally recognizing this.  They see us as an enemy that absolutely must be wiped out.  And the scary thing is that the only reason it's controversial in this situation is because it's applied to conservatives instead of liberals.

      •  Yes I clicked the links (none / 0)

and I think it is a powerful statement about right wing hypocrisy.

But our government - especially now - happens to take even implied or sarcastic threats of violence very seriously.  And they are watching more now than every.

It's like joking about having a bomb standing in line at airport security - they're going to take you out of line no matter the context.  It's a stupid and reckless thing to do.

This blog is an invaluable source of information and connection.  Anything that would possibly put it in jeopardy (and don't think they're going to go after it sooner or later), I am against, no matter how clever.

          I get your point.

I don't know, though.  I mean is it better to sit quiet in the face of this?  Don't we have a right to point out exactly how brutal and violent the GOP's rhetoric towards us has gotten?

I mean I got similar grief for defending Howard Dean's use of the word "hate" in my last diary.  When are we allowed to stand up and say "enough"?  I mean the Republicans' rhetoric is getting pretty absurd and, frankly, scary.  I'm uncomfortable with letting it grow like some cancer while we sit here and ignore it out of fear of being noticed...

...but remember that they're looking for ANY reason to bury us, and to stay careful.

Not for THEM but for US -I think what you're referring to is how we've taken the high road on smears and attacks and lies for so long (the reason I became an Independent 4 years ago, by the way - I felt the "repub-lite" attitude of our elected officials didn't deserve my partisan support).

We shouldn't back down on ANY OF THAT, and point out THEIR hate speech where we see it...just be careful, is all.  There is a lot riding on this.

    •  I was thinking (none / 0)

that some wing-nut would copy the diary and eliminate the links (of which I could only open and read a few before reaching dangerous blood pressure levels) and post it somewhere and say "see what they're saying over at dKos!"

The wing-nuts and those that stumble lemming-like behind them seem to live in a twisted blind-eye-to-the-truth kind of world and in their scary little minds this whole rant probably doesn't make any sense. "Ann Coulter is a goddess and knows how dangerous these liberals are to 'merica. She's only being honest."

However, having all this hate and violence mongering chronicled and laid out so creatively does drive home the point that the extreme right-wing are indeed the angry, demented, insulting, slanderous, violence-inciting, worst this country has to offer. This needed to be said and proven.

      •  Who cares? (4.00 / 2)

I mean we have the master list of links here.  Who cares what they post at Free Republic?  I can live with badly cited conservative bloggers using mis-statements to make spurious arguments.  I mean that happens every day.

Of course, there's a danger that it could become a real story BEYOND the blogs.  But think that through.  If it becomes a huge controversy, it's just a platform for us to throw every one of these original quotes back in their faces.

I don't know if they really want that kind of publicity, y'know?  Attacking a bunch of nameless, nothing bloggers is easy.  But there are some big names saying some pretty ugly things on that list, and I don't know if they'd like to see these things all get widespread dissemination as part of some common theme.  I mean "Chris Bowers said __" doesn't mean much but, "actually, that was Bill O'Reilly" definitely does.

I suspect this shameless pandering to the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party is no more that a blatant appeal for support in his bid to seek elected office. Is there an open seat in Chris's district?

Next Chris will attempt to deny he's running for any elected position, proving that he's running for elected office. What's the story Chris? What position are you seeking? City Council? Mayor? State House? Senate?
