I don't believe any of you clowns in the Big Media are really reading DKos. I don't believe you care to listen to the best and brightest, in any forum. Why bother, since you believe
you are the best and brightest, and that nothing really matters but your own prestige. You pretend that things matter, get your panties bunched up over projecting fears about terror and Iraq that have little to do with 9-11, and then tell those who have faced down the same phantoms and fears, the real patriots, who will not sell out, that we should
give away our liberties. For that, I have only two words - cowardly fools.
We're not giving up jack because of 9-11. Osama takes nothing away from me unless he comes and takes it himself. This whole episode of focusing on DailyKos and other blogs, proclaiming the whole thing fascist, this whole tendency of politically manipulating a military occupation that has killed tens of thousands of Iraqis and taken hundreds of American lives, our friends and family, in a steady stream of bloodshed and futility is absurd.
Stand down and wake up Big Media patriots. You are really cowards, and, whether you know it or not, constantly give away where your allegiance really lies. Take courage and change course, and don't give away your freedom, or ours, and don't allow political spin and bullshit to make you look stupid and soul-sold. And, by all means, stop your petty attacks on community-based media and opinion.
With that in mind, in terms of our current national obsession, I would like anyone to explain to me the ethics of manipulating opinions about this occupation in Iraq for political benefit. To me, unmolested by any desire to think the same as the cool kids, or to drink the Kool-Aid, it sounds like pure evil to sacrifice our friends and family in this manner, or to sacrifice the lives of tens of thousands of Iraqis for their own good (even though we know we're only doing it for our own, and, to make things more absurd, this isn't increasing our security at all, but dramatically worsening it in the wake of the solidarity and good will the world experienced in the aftermath of 9-11, recoiling in horror at the machinations of a small group of terrorists).
I know you pretentious big media types have short memories, and wish to forget everything that has happened up until about 2 weeks ago, but the rest of us who are actually concerned about events, whether in our neighborhoods or the world, prefer to remember, and put these memories and experiences in context.
If faced with a liar, a short memory would be one's worst adaptive trait, or defense, as one would constantly be fooled by any preening peacock claiming to be an authority, whether or not he/she had fooled you countless times before, or been shown to be a liar, or just been shown to be completely wrong and not to be taken seriously.. "Fool me once, your bad, fool my twice, mine" has never been more applicable, but only to those people who are honest with themselves, who refuse to forget how and why we got fooled the first time, usually because some asshole preening like a peacock told you some BS and you wanted to believe him or her because you wanted them to like you, to accept you, to join the club.
Let it be known to any propagandist lurking in these waters that this site was the main battleground for those who were right about this "war" in Iraq, before it happened, as it was happening, and as it is still happening. This is a community site, so there are plenty of divergent opinions, some pretty radical, and some pretty stupid, but anyone who honestly cares to research what's been happening at this site, in terms of content, in terms of the dominant thrust of argument, especially in relation to the invasion of Iraq, will find that this site was far more clear-headed and keen-eyed than most other media outlets, and much of that is due to the fact that DKos is not just an outlet, but a community inlet, and that you can't realistically carry a fallacious position here, that can be easily defeated, for long because people will call you on your shit.
Unfortunately, mainstream pundits rarely get called on their shit, let alone required to give public channels to their sources and "footnotes" (not in actual newspapers, but online for those who are curious what forms the basis of facts stated in op/eds), except to their editor, who is well paid by "ownership", and that is why what y'all write in Big Media is largely elitist bullshit and nonsense, always trying to capture some convention wisdom of elitist wankers, not the American people, because you look down on the American people, on all people, and smile smugly at the thought of "populism", as if the people really know what they want or what's good for them.
You're wrong, and real accountability would be a refreshing education for all of you. If you're not ready for that, get out of our way.
Thank you.
