ABCNews is reporting that Rush Limbaugh is being investigated for making 30-40 bank withdrawals of $9,900 (no link yet). Transactions of over $10K are considered suspicious and must be reported to regulators. Allegedly, Limbaugh made withdrawals of less than $10K to avoid having the transactions reported and was laundering money to fund his drug addiction. He may have been helping his dealers hide the transactions. If found guilty, Limbaugh's offense could bring a 30 year jail sentence.
The bank from which Limbaugh withdrew the money, U.S. Trust was fined $10MM in July of 2001 for allegedly helping clients around securities rules and for violating anti-money laundering rules, among other charges. Limbaugh was known at the time as a client but was unnamed when the bank was fined.
It ain't over til the fat man has his ass hauled into prison (perhaps).
