This is all a bit hard for me to believe as well, even of Perle and Frum. I mean, I'm sure that they believe this crap, but am I wrong to think that publishing this during the leadup to the election is a tad overconfident? And might hurt their cause rather than help it? Certainly they haven't any made mistakes of that nature before...
I suppose it could give W an easy 'whoa, boys' moment of statesmanship if he came out against this approach.
And of course I'm forgetting that toughness, properly defined, is in and of itself a kind of magic potion, conferring invulnerability on its acolytes. Kinda like Jake LaMotta in Raging Bull.
