I just found this unique little tool over at MichaelMoore.com -
Social In-Security Calculator. This a great way to found out how much you'll lose as a retiree if Bush is allowed to SS Social Security. Kudos to ever devised this ingenious little device. Try it for yourself. Spread the word.
Heard an interesting figure, but haven't been able to validate it yet. Supposedly, the Social Security trustees have based their predictions assuming that over the next 40 to 50 years we will experience an annual average of 1.6% economic growth. The last 75 years had an annual average a full percentage point higher. The point made was that with that kind of annual growth average, Wall Street would be tanking and personal investments would lose, lose, lose. All that money George let you keep would quietly wind up in the bank account of some Wall Street ne'erdowell - your retirement savings could be wiped out.
Whether these facts are true, I'm not sure. But either way, changing Social Security is a scheme. If low-growth markets don't kill your investment nest-egg, what do you think the chances of an Enron-style bookkeeping fraud wiping out your account are?
Pretty damn good.
