Friends, we all know we've been lied to by the Republican Party for lo these many years. We here in the blogosphere are on to their tricks, their evasions, their stonewalling, their goose-stepping talking points. However, the average Americans, your neighbors, your out-of-town relatives, the parents of your children's classmates, all the ones who should have known better but didn't when they ticked the box next to "George W. Bush" in 2000 and 2004, well, they haven't even nearly bought it completely yet.
Read on below the fold, if you know what I'm talking about:
These "average Americans" may be getting a little suspicious. They may just be pissed off at the quagmire that is Iraq, but they haven't made the connection yet between the Plame Affair and the invasion of Iraq. They haven't fully grokked the lack of a connection between 9/11 and Saddam Hussein. They don't see the depth of the big corporate interests in health care legislation and social security "reform" that has been the Bush Agenda. They don't comprehend the damage to this planet Earth that is being allowed by the Big Business Lackeys in the White House. They don't understand the reach of the Religious Right into our government and the medieval trend toward religious ignorance, bigotry, and human enslavement that is currently underway. How can we educate our unaware neighbors, our unsuspecting co-workers, our well-intentioned relatives? How can we drive these points home and reverse the tide?
Can we expect the media to educate the masses? No. The media is a pack of deep cover RNC plants and corporate PR sleeper cells. They will not put the story together because the MSM is still caught in the vortex of a giant maelstrom of blood-sucking, money-leaching, soul-exterminating corporate interests that reach across borders, product lines and TV channels to control what you see, hear and think. We must reverse that trend.
Can we expect Congress to investigate with public hearings? No, because by a 227 to 205 count, it is the political arm of the RNC, which also controls the White House, the judiciary, and most of the state houses and governorships in this land of yours and mine. They will never give up, never give in. They will subvert the truth and decency without batting an eye, and when your opponent is willing to go to extremes that you are not (like the terrorists who gladly die for their "cause"), you are well and truly fucked.
Are we then to place all our hopes for truth, justice and the American way on the overworked shoulders of one Patrick Fitzgerald? No, because while he is doing yeoman's work I am sure, and although it is natural for the oppressed to yearn for a hero, we cannot count on the magic of any one person to rescue our entire society from the evil that has slithered and slimed it's reach into every cog and lever of the political machinery in this country.
What then can we do, besides write diaries on Kos bemoaning this state of affairs, nobly but uselessly wringing our cyber-hands as we contemplate our fate as perpetual slaves to the Big Bad Ugly Republican Corporate Machine?
We can use the power of the ballot box. Our right as constituted to vote must be united if we are to defeat the monster. We must set as a goal the task of retaking the House of Representatives in 2006. Nothing less is acceptable. Once we have achieved this, we can hold hearings. We can launch investigations. We can contemplate things like "impeachment". In other words, we can turn this game around. There's still time left on the clock. It is time for a Big Inning, a new beginning. All politics is local, so every house seat must be contested locally, forcefully, and with the full intention of winning. Each of us lives in a locality. Each of us therefore has a voice in the process that underlies the essence of our political existence. We must take it upon ourselves, collectively and as individuals, to work to win the seat in our district in 2006. And if that seat is already secure, there's one nearby that isn't: work to win that one too. If we can take back 12 seats, we go from a 227-205 disadvantage to a 217-215 advantage. Let's set a bigger goal: win 30 seats. Take over these House committees. Unleash the hounds of hell on the scum that have perverted the political process in this country we all love.
Support a candidate that will make reform their pledge. We have to eliminate the pork barrel spending, the quid pro quo, and the RINO/DINO vultures of a feather that flock together, picking the flesh from the carcass of our beloved land. We cannot tolerate Democrats who play The Game any more than we can live with these Republicans who sell their souls and our children's futures to the corporate machinery that threatens to control everything.
