Cutting to the chase of what about Bush's Arlington Cemetery appearrance was truly noteworthy, I give you the official Wesley Clark weblog,
Generally Speaking:
Bush Disrespects Veterans
At Clark Headquarters we were watching the Veteran's Day festivities at Arlington National Cemetery on television. The camera gets a shot of George W. Bush. He's got his hand over his heart and is chatting with the guy next to him through the whole thing. It was same kind of whisper you use in church. It was unbelievable. This while the Old Guard that guards the tomb of the unknown soldier is being deployed for the first time since Vietnam. We need a leader who respects the service of men and women in uniform. We need Wes Clark.
Of course, you might differ with my agreement to the last sentence of the post, but you get the gist. I've been to the Tomb of the Unknowns on somewhere between 5 and 10 occasions during my 20 years. The Changing of the Guard there is one of the most solemn and impactful military-related events one can bear witness to, it happens under normal conditions on a daily basis, and it is done in DEAD SILENCE. That the President of the United States can't even keep his yap shut on such a special occurrence (it being both Veterans' Day and a unique/rare ceremony) is simply outrageous, plain and simple. And no, I'm not just grasping at straws to augment my "liberal Bush hatred" here. This isn't about politics; it's about that little word that Republicans love to use and pretend they own: "character." So much for restoring pride and honor to the White House...
