  The fact is, if you have most of your family debt on credit cards, you're looking at interest rates north of 15 percent. This kind of stuff is outrageous, and the banks that charge the rates, including CitiBank among others, all locate in North Dakota where there is no interest rate ceiling. It is hardly surprising that banks can pay billions to settle their participation in the Enron fraud when they are making the enormous difference (off working people, I might add) between the very low prime rates and the outrageous credit card rates.

    ...on credit cards, I don't have much sympathy for you. I'm guessing you're referring to other ppl though. For anyone out there saddled with high-interest rate credit cards:
    Assuming you make minimum monthly payments, you'll find yourself eligible for a lot of 5% "introductory rate" cards. Get one. The rate stays that low for 6 months to a year. Before that introductory rate expires, you'll get more offers for low introductory rate cards. Get another one. Roll the balance over. Lather, rinse, repeat.

      is in your financial position. Too many people have forgotten the adage "walk a mile in another mans' shoes". A lot of people are Forced to live on credit. It happens every time the economy is trashed by the right. Not everyone was handed an ivy league degree by daddy.
      You might also consider that the CC Companties have been actively marketing to high school and college students for years now. Its' a bit hard for a seventeen or nineteen year old to just "switch his debt to a low interest amex"... or for a single mother making 18k a year with no real credit other than the card to get another one.
      Yes for someone owning a three hundred k home who drives a new car every other year it might be an easy problem to fix. Unfortunately the VAST majority of americans arent those people. Something you'd never know from american media culture which assumes we're all college educated upper middle class married white folk.

If you mean that no one has ever, for instance, lost their job and/or encountered an unexpected expense that forced them to pile a bunch of debt on their credit cards, then you are not living in the real world.

their concern is probably credit card rates which are still very high compared to mortgage rates. those with less than A1 credit are paying 15 to 22% on credit cards.

Bush's plummet in all categories are Incredible, considering all the right wing lies and propaganda by Foxx, Hate Radio, 3 Qrts. of MSNBC, half of CNN (the other have is indifferent), and considering the lack of reporting by the cowardly, corporate, print media, and considering only the partial existence of any opposition party.

      we need to be asking. Wish I had clear answers, but might offer the following guidelines.
      
      If the republicans have a tight race but one is more beatable than the other, then help the beatable one out.
      
      If all Republicans appear unbeatable in the general it becomes more complicated. Vote for the extreme A-hole in the hopes that people learn a lesson, or the more reasonable in the hope that it opens fissures in the Republican machine.
      
      My assessment is that Perry is definitely beatable. He is such an empty suit! If enough Dems pushed Strayhorn in the primary her nomination might cause some split with the fundies, if for no other reason than that some Dems voted for her. Strayhorn would also open a big division within the uber-corrupt wing of the Repugs. I just don't think she would go along with their crooked deals, and she definitely wouldn't go along with the Austin-bashing routine because of her history here.
      With a little luck a strong Dem might beat Strayhorn if the Repugs are fighting among themselves and the nationl party corruption were on full display.
      I beleive that the Trans-Texas Corridor scheme offers Dems an unprecedented opportunity to win back some of rural Texas. Some conservatives in rural counties are starting to wake up to what an awful deal Perry is shoving down their throats.

He tried to claim that Bush's poll numbers weren't, in fact, in the toilet.
He tried to claim that the war isn't an unmitigated cluster fuck.
But his heart wasn't in it.
These are sad days for the Rethuglicans.

And they know they will have to pay.
