While Republican Senators are coming out swinging with their atrocious Terrorist Surveillance Act, Democrats still aren't lining up en masse to support Russ Feingold's censure resolution. Many of us have been calling and emailing our Senators and asking for their support, but so far only Boxer and Harkin have "officially" endorsed censure. Dean and the Democratic Party have only offered their weakly-worded "Stop Attacking Russ" petition.
What else can we do to help get our representatives on message and make our voices heard?
In the past two days I've gotten mass emails from Patrick Leahy, Ted Kennedy, and Democracy For America. They asked for contributions, they asked for my signature on petitions, but they did not mention the Feingold resolution. I wrote back to each PAC and told them that I would neither add my name to any petition nor contribute to any fund until they come out in support of censure. I ask each of you to do the same. I would guess that a large number of the people who are targeted by these emails are avid Kos readers, and if all of us stick together on this we might be able to help Russ get at least a little more support. All you have to do is go to the offending PAC's website, find the contact form, and write something quick to tell them that you won't be signing their petitions or donating to their causes until they throw their support behind the censure resolution. To help you get started, here are links to contact the three PACs that I've written back to so far:
Democracy For America
Patrick Leahy's Green Mountain PAC
Ted Kennedy
In the comments section, please add links to other progressive PACs and Senators that have sent out mass emails this week and haven't yet come out in support of censure.
