Tom Shanahan, a friend and colleague in NYC politics, was celebrating last night the New York State Court of Appeals'
ruling in favor of his three transsexual clients who sued Toys R Us years ago for discrimination.
An update from Tom is here.
This ruling is a victory for DEMOCRATIC
VALUES, and should be loudly celebrated as such by all true progressives.
Given that on Nov. 2nd, 2004, "gay marriage" bans passed by large margins in 11 states, by a 2-to-1 margin in OH and by 78% in GA, we can deduce that uncounted thousands of self-proclaimed "progressives"--pro-choice, pro-environment, anti-war Americans--voted for these bans, which write special exclusion, discrimination, into law.
Gay rights issues are human and civil rights issues. Period. The attitude of Dem leaders, including too often Howard Dean--who was, after all, from the DLC crowd--is that the family of gay issues need to shut their mouths and go to the back of the bus..."Out of sight, out of [swing voters' minds]."
That's unacceptable to me.
