In the spirit of the campaign that is always looking ahead:
When Howard Dean is President of the United States and we have a Democratic House & Senate (I'm thinking big here), does that mean that the Democratic Platform will actually be the template for legislation introduced in the 2005-2007 session of Congress?
Are we ready to start thinking about that?
It's been at least 20 years since the party platforms have received any attention. This year, however, many of us will be represented at the convention by Howard Dean delegates. And, we have the power to craft a party platform that actually could be implemented after the general election, when Howard Dean is President of the United States and we have taken back control of the two legislative chambers.
How are the draft Party Platform Planks put together? It's been so long since the planks & platforms mattered, I don't remember how the process works.
The second the nomination is wrapped up, we should begin working on this. Should the Meetups begin to focus on issues at that point? How do we get the ideas developed by volunteers to the campaign and party leaders?
I'd love to hear more ideas about this phase of the campaign.
