The Scene:
It is late September 1984, and Walter Mondale's daughter is scheduled to speak at the small CNY liberal arts college I attend. The economy is beginning to roar out of the early 80's recession and Senator Mondale is facing a tough uphill battle. Some marketing genius out of Reagan campaign has come up with a catchy slogan, "Four more years". Now I am sure Ms. Mondale is/was a very composed woman, but when she was introduced she was cascaded with this phrase chanted from the audience(to my great embarrassment), "Four more years, Four more years". Needless to say she became rattled, rushed through her speech and left as quickly as possible.
What does this have to do with unelected moron? Well, even though Reagan was doing very real damage to the country, the smoking economy gave him the momentum to win in a landslide. If the economy is doing even moderately well, and with the help of an eager media, shrub WILL be reelected, and probably in a landslide. If this happens say bye-bye to this country as many of us know and love. So you can all flame me if you want but I really believe this is true.
