A few months ago, Al Gore took the center stage when he called for the resignation of Rumsfeld, Tenet and others.
I definitely do not have as much credibility or visibility as Al Gore, but I wanted to call upon a few people to sacrifice their personal goals and help the democratic party.
Some thoughts first. Red states are not going to turn blue in the next 2-3 congressional cycles unless you change the R/D colors, or we find a pan-color politician. Although we do have Dean and Obama who could be the people to provide such a platform, we need to look beyond finding the ONE. Anyone who was a part of the 48% (counted) needs to step up to the plate and contribute to making this a better country. Note that this battle needs to be won state by state, county by county, precint by precint.
What I am suggesting here is not the path to Nirvana, but a starting point which can have a snowball effect potentially.
One of the major obstacles is finding people who can win a congressional or sentate seat from the red states. Not saying it is impossible, but highly difficult. The key in the next few years is to erode the republican margin, one by one.
Are there simpler solutions not visible to the nake eye? Here are some thoughts:
- I call upon Bill Clinton to move to Arkansas and be elected as a senator. People have talked about the President having an after-president life as a Senator, and why not Arkansas, and why not when it is really needed?
- I call upon Al Gore to move to Tenessee and be elected governor. He had expressed a desire to go back to his roots, so why not do it as part of rejuventing the democratic party in his home state.
- I call upon Joe Lieberman to resign as Senator, and from the democratic party. Senator, your presence any longer furthers the Republican interests, and I would request you to salvage any reputation you have left before it is too late.
- I call upon Hillary Clinton to relocate to Arkansas and be elected 2nd Senator after President Bill Clinton has been elected Senator there. I think it will be easier for Hillary to get the seat once Bill has warmed Arkansas to her. Also, this is actually losing one race to win another, as most likely NY will not vote for a Republican senator given the precarious situation the democrats are in.
- I call upon the Kos community to identify similar individuals of proven credentials to go back and win congressional or senatorial elections. There is no harm in going a step down to further a cause. So Senator Edwards, if you see a congressional seat in NC/SC, please go for it. So Howard Dean, if you can win a congressional seat by relocating to a state with cofederate flags, please go for it. And, James Carville, if you think you can go and win a seat, get off your TV a** and go make a run for it. There is no use pretending to have a passion for democratic party if you are not willing to sacrifice.
- I call upon the Kos community to identify any elections won by less than 5% of the vote and plan a recall vote there. Recall is not a prerogative of republicans. And while we are on recall, let's identify a big-name democrat and initiate a recall in california, which will at least put pressure on Arnold to remain in the center.
- I call upon the congressional and senatorial members of democratic party to walk out of any and all votes where they differ with republicans on the rules. Whether it be a vote which is scheduled on an emergency basis, or one in which the voting time is limited, or one in which the voting time is repeatedly extended. Boycott them all. Vote only when the rules are treated with respect. Abstaining does not change the result, but after 100 instances where votes are passed by 230-0, even media will need to report it.
- I call upon the Kos (and other democratic) community to identity means by which we do not need to wait till 2008 for the country to be put on right track. I am not suggesting bloodshed, but anything ranging from investigations to impeachment.
Sorry for being preachy, but that's the mindset I had while thinking of this in the middle of night. I am doing my part, and I am sure if more people start expecting a change before 2008 and planning for it, we could bring about at the very least a more civil tone and respect (rules, law, tone) from the thugs, and at the best a real change.
