Mark Twain wrote 'Tom Sawyer' a wonderful, some say semi-biographical book about a young rascal growing up on the banks of the Mississippi during the early 19th century.
One of the best tales in the book is about how Tom who had a job he did not want to do -- whitewashing a fence -- got some of his neighbor kids to do the work for him.
Well, we have the Republicans in Congress trying to do nearly the same thing, but they are not nearly as sharp as old Tom Sawyer...
The Republicans have a job they don't want to do, which is find out 'What the hell happened to the US intelligence that was misused to start the Iraq Occupation War?'
Now whitewashing the true story about how the American people were mislead into the Iraq Occupation War and why their children are dying and being maimed in Iraq, is not going to serve their cause, so they want a little help in telling their half-truths from a half-hearted investigation.
If Al Gore had lied to the American people half as much as Georgie Bush, well, let's just say that the vigor of the investigation would surpass any investigation into the sexual misconduct of Bill Clinton.
And so far, the Dems are not helping them out! In fact, a Dem staffer wrote a memo basically saying that if the Republicans did not tell the truth, the whole embarrasing truth about the Liar in Chief, well, the Dems should do it for them.
Naturally, the Republicans don't like it much... and they are whining about it -- big time. As a matter of fact, they are whining worse than Tom Sawyer did to avoid taking his Auntie's patent medicine.
There is a big difference between whitewashing a fence and whitewashing the lies that get America's kids shot up in Iraq.
Tom Sawyer might have gotten the best of a few fictional kids, but Iraq is costing the lives of real American kids. Even more will not be able to pick up a paintbrush for the rest of their lives...
I am rooting for my Red Meat Dems on the committee.
