Corked Bats Blog. Mediocre blogging at its finest.
Once in a while, I take a little spin around the conservative netroots via Blogs for Bush. To my astonishment, I found this post on a very conservative blog:
Right-wing Extremism Revealed
In a shocking display of political extremism, activist- lawyer Edwin Viera told a group of Christian conservatives gathered for a discussion of "Remedies to Judicial Tyranny" that his "bottom line" for dealing with what he sees as a misguided Supreme Court comes from Josef Stalin.
Said Viera, "He [Stalin] had a slogan, and it worked very well for him, whenever he ran into difficulty: 'no man, no problem.' "
What Stalin really said was this: "Death solves all problems: no man, no problem."
Viera used the quote twice during his speech.
Did Viera understand the full meaning of the Stalin quote he botched?--the answer to that question is largely immaterial since whether or not Viera misquoted Stalin does not diminish the fact that by quoting him at all within the context of the incendiary discussion topic, Viera entered the realm of the implied death threat. Viera crossed, verbally at least, the line separating the rule of law from the law of the jungle.
The prominent members of the Christian right who participated in the discussion group should immediately and vocally condemn Mr. Viera and the FBI should pay him a visit.
From now on, Antiprotester will be exploring not only the activities of the radical left, but of the radical right as well.
I might be a little late on this, but it seems to me that instead of "Saving Phil"--to borrow John Aravosis's refraine--we might want to remind conservatives where they fit on the ideological spectrum of their party if they do in fact despise Stalin. I am sure most of them really don't like Uncle Joe.
If I were in the party that still thinks Communism is a threat, I would be pretty pissed off if my power-brokers were quoting Joe Stalin.
Course, maybe Viera was refering to Joe Tribiani's short-lived stage name.
