Having read this article, "Bush: The Worst President In History"
http://www.rollingstone.com/... gives me extra reassurance in how I shot my documentary, using a historical POV, as opposed to making it HAVE to be timely (ie Greenwald's films - Jesus, does the guy SLEEP?), or having a specific point to prove (ie Moore's films - always have a very central theme, which in his case can be quite good, although it would restrict some other less editorial docs). Seeing an article like this gives me reassurance that while my doc may not be the first, and won't be the last, it simply doesn't matter, as this will be an era discussed ad infinitum, and the film will simply contribute to the larger body of work that has developed, and is developing, from this time.
For those who have been tuning in from time to time about the film's progress, I have made it through a second pass rough cut edit, and the film is now clocking at about 93 minutes, and those extra three minutes (above 90) are going to be on the chopping block as well. For those who have not been following this, the documentary is going to be animated. I have now finally rendered about two seconds of the footage, and it looks way cool, but the render time is simply too freaking long, so I need to tweak it somewhat, or go back to the, no pun intended, drawing board. A question that I have for all of you which might be too long for the poll question area is this....
Background on question: I was planning on using two distinct "looks", switching about half way through the film. Now it seems that the switch point comes a whole lot sooner than I had originally envisioned, meaning that one "look"s section last a whole lot longer than the other.
Here is my question:
Should I just use one look throughout the film, or should I stick to two, or perhaps add yet another look and divide it more evenly (about 30 minutes per look). Just so the notion that this is gimicky is dispelled, I am using the different looks broken down by the story itself. The different looks that I have right now is an oil, and a watercolor. Anyway if that question isn't too difficult, please feel free to answer, or just make a post that says "huh?".
