In a couple of months, my partner and I will be moving from Washington DC to Albuquerque, NM. I have been totally excited because for once in my life, I will be living in a battleground state (relative to Virginia and DC, which of course, is NOT a state and has no voting representation in Congress--just had to put that in).
Also, again as opposed to DC (though not as much Va), there is a strong Dem Gov. in Richardson. Furthermore, there is a strong Democratic delegation in the state legistlature...
Case in point. Thursday evening, D's in the split leg. pulled some tricky moves to pass the elimination of the tax on groceries and selected medical procedures. From the
ABQ Journal
"The Senate waited until 50 minutes were
left in the session to bring up the food
tax proposal for a quick explanation and
then a vote. The rapid handling of the
measure angered Republican opponents of
the tax bill."
Of course the R's were up in arms about this.
"House and Senate Republicans complained
that Democrats had abused the rules to
force votes and overcome GOP delaying
tactics.
At one point, House Republicans trooped
to the front of the chamber and dumped
their rule books on the rostrum in front
of House Speaker Ben Lujan, D-Santa Fe,
the bill's sponsor."
Isn't it great to see an article in which the Dems are the agressors and the Rethugs are snivelling?
