Looks Like Nobody's Home
I stood on the corner in Green Bay, WI. Waiting for the motorcade. Late as usual. Somebody mentioned he was delayed because of a terrorist threat. Well shouldn't he be heading back to DC? Not attending the $1000 a plate lunch fundraiser? $5000. For a picture. $5000. for a picture with the President? Well I had a picture to show him.
Taped to my sign which read, ENJOY LUNCH WHILE SOLDIERS DIE! a picture of my son.
I took the day off my job which is currently in peril, because there was no way Bush was coming to town with out my protest of his visit.
We knew when the motorcade was coming traffic came to a halt and there was an eerie silence except for some over caffeinated police officer yelling at us to keep behind the infamous yellow tape. Then I saw it... Police lights flashing black SUVS loaded with armed men and the black limousine, like the kind you ride in when someone dies. How appropriate. As he passed he waved and smiled. I looked in his eyes. It looked like the lights were on but nobody was home. I yelled as loud as I could "YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED, enjoy lunch!"
There weren't many protesters. But I was there, and I always will be as long as our loved one's our in harms way.
