Please tell me I'm not hallucinating this... The top story on CNN.com right now is Bush's speech touting WMDs as the greatest threat to humanity these days. I don't have a transcript, but he apparently talks about Dr Khan, and in the
article itself... well, here are the paragraphs that twist my head:
Aides said the focus is meant to draw attention to how the Pakistani scientist managed to avoid international protocols and agreements designed to block the spread of nuclear weapons technology.
Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf pardoned Khan after he admitted he gave nuclear weapons technology to other countries.
A senior Bush administration official praised Musharraf's actions, saying they were "critical and courageous to take down the most popular man in Pakistan" and "steps to unravel that network."
WTF?!? If an American scientist had done what Khan did, he'd be charged with treason & executed, just like the Rosenbergs. Musharraf gave him a full pardon, and Bush thinks this is worth a PAT ON THE BACK?!?
Please tell me some mainstream media are going to notice the cognitive dissonance this spin is creating.
