I am a little tired of the current Democratic Leadership failing to understand where the "American People" are headed. The American People deserve decisive and bold leadership to correct the wrongs over the last 6 years. When the Supreme Court ruled against holding the detainees in Guantanamo as "combatants" vs. prisoners of war, thus entitling them to protections spelled out in the Geneva accord, the Dem's seem to run from the light like cockroaches.
This is an issue that we ought to take head on.
It's about the lies stupid! (Should be our nationwide motto)
We should take the position right now, in a nationwide media blitz, we will vote for a bill that will protect America and not for a bill that will tear the constitution to shreds. We will not be bullied by a President who has given the American Citizens:
1) Secret Prisons around the world
2) Detainment human beings in Guantanamo without proper and just means to challenge their confinement that have been the norm around the world for 50 years
3) Ease dropping, without warrants, of personal phone conversations
4) Probing into communication data
5) Provided unproven (false) and cherry picked information about going to war with Iraq
6) Has failed to take proper corrective action in the prosecution of the Iraq War after the some of the assumptions made turned out be wrong.
But just as important, to tie a tax cut for the wealthiest people in America so that the poorest get a raise is - perverse!
I think American's get it now. We came close in 2004 but a lot has happened since then and I think we can turn the tide. We need to, up front, make Bush and all his mistakes (and cronies) a national referendum. So that the whole world can see that as Americans we have repudiated the vile and perverse policies of the only President who warranted to be (okay maybe Nixon too) impeached.
