I'm going to keep talking about this until someone tells me why he shouldn't do it:
With the RNC bearing down on us, and with the media salivating at the thought of some disaster happening there, it seems that instead of waiting to react to whatever happens, Kerry should be a proactive leader (and shit-deflector) by saying something along the lines of:
"The founding fathers of this great nation had the foresight to ensure that future generations of Americans would have the right to speak out for or against its government when necessary. This is the basis of the First Amendment, and it keeps our country strong. In the coming weeks, hundreds of thousands of peaceful Americans will exercise this right when they make their voices heard in New York City."
"To be certain, there will be individuals among these otherwise peaceful Americans who wish to stir up trouble. To be certain, there will be individuals among the fringe of this sensible assembly who do not honor the democratic ideals upon which this country was founded. To be certain, there will be individuals who do not subscribe to the philosophy of non-violent protest. These individuals do not represent America. These individuals do not represent Democrats."
"I salute all patriotic Americans of every political stripe who choose to exercise their right to assemble and be heard. At the same time, I urge them to do so in a peaceful, non-violent manner."
"Let's roll."
