Well it seems even the right-wing has had enough of Tom DeLay.
Yesterday's National Review Editorial Tells Delay to step aside,
Since 1994 Tom DeLay has led the Republican House majority ably and loyally. Now he needs to perform yet another act of service by not seeking to return as majority leader.
And it just gets better from there, it goes on to warn Republicans....
The Abramoff case is not the figment of a fevered partisan prosecutor's imagination. People have pled guilty to crimes -- not just Abramoff, but former DeLay aide and fellow Abramoff rip-off-artist Michael Scanlon. The allegations touch on other former DeLay staffers, Ed Buckham and Tony Rudy. It might be that DeLay was unaware of all the greedy, and perhaps criminal, practices swirling around him, but his colleagues can be forgiven for wanting to take a "wait and see" attitude.
They go on to quote the WaPo article
about the Russian money and his trips and rag on his wife's "job".
This quote has got to have the Republican's heads spinning,
One top Republican strategist told us, "There are two types of House Republicans: Those who are in trouble, and those who don't know it yet." Republicans have to do more, rather than less, to control the damage.
Todays Post
has yet another article about the scandal with this quote from Az. R-Rep Flake "The problem is that power corrupts, and we simply have too much of it," Flake said.
The winds of change certainly seem to be blowing and in a real in your face move "Give Em Hell Harry" says he won't be giving up any money because
"Abramoff was a Republican operative, and this is a Republican scandal," said Reid spokesman Jim Manley. "Any effort by Republicans to drag Democrats into this is doomed to failure."
I sense a major split coming in the Republican party. These are the kind of moves that bring us much closer to "Watergate Territory". Let the games begin.
It seems calls for campaign finance reform and lobbying restrictions are coming from all directions also. Looks like 06' is shaping up to be a very interesting year.
