It is a shame that the NYPD has the time and money to suppress
Critical Mass Bike Riders but there is very little effort to get dangerous drivers off the city streets.
"Still We Ride" is a movie about police suppression of
Critical Mass.
In the Village Voice it is reported that twenty-one bicyclist were were killed in traffic accidents in New York City during 2005. On Sunday some New Yorkers paid their respect.
Angered by what they see as the city's refusal to rein in reckless drivers, more than 150 bicyclists turned out for a citywide memorial ride on Sunday
(click for pics). They rode in groups from each of the five boroughs, then converged in Manhattan. Along the way, they stopped to commemorate the places where cyclists have died in the last year.
May we mourn the loss of people who used a Transportation Alternative in a city that is hostile to pedal power.
