George Bush has talked about the "soft bigotry of low expectations".
Well I've been watching the last few days of witness testimony, and I am appalled that this is the United States of America. What I am seeing, the almost complete dismissal of the testimony from blacks and women against Samuel Alito by Republican Senators.
It reminds me of the heartbreaking scene in Fahrenheit 911 when the House Black Caucus tried in vain to get ONE Senator to sign on to their cause, the investigation of the disenfranchisement of blacks in Florida in the election of 2000.
While the Democratic Senators have been faithfully discharging their duty to we, the people, to determine whether this man Alito is fit for this exalted position, the Republican Senators are simply for the most part, dismissing the panel members who are speaking out quite compellingly against Alito. They express not the slightest curiosity, they do not
deign to lower themselves to even talk to these people.
It's disgusting.
