I've been waiting for an excuse to diary this, and now I have one. Lately kossaks have taken up an interest in online polls, and we see diaries entitled "freep this poll." Well freepers "freep." Kossaks "kos." I'd like to encourage more folks to follow in the footsteps of those kossaks who have adopted the more, shall we say, empowering language.
Of course that wasn't worthy of a diary in and of itself, so here's something to "kos." You may have missed Since Sliced Bread, the SEIU's $100,000 contest which is nearing its final award. While most everyone can give SEIU credit for the concept in implementation, the DLCish attitude evident in the choice of finalists tarnished the contest as a whole.
A more or less neutral writeup on the SSB meltdown is at Alternet. For my part, I kodged together an informal, no-cash-award poll to actually find the more innovative ideas. Please take a moment to cast a ballot and add the kossak voice to the process. (Please do read the instructions!)
A handful of the more active
SSB blog posters, despite turning on the site (some with quite a lot of vitriol) still think that somewhere in that mass of ramblings are enough good ideas to merit a communal dig for them. After all, a cash prize can make some people who usually just lurk a lot more talkative, and they may have some perspectives that we don't hear much.
Unfortunately that number is far less than the number we need to file the 7000 ballots. So we agreed to reach out to the blogosphere (left, right, and center are all being asked to participate) and round up some more voters. In this case, it's OK to vote often.
